Kenya’s Waweru Kamau to handle TotalEnergies U23 AFCON 2023 final
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Kenya’s Peter Waweru Kamau to handle the final match of the TotalEnergies U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Hosts Morocco will face defending champions Egypt in the final on Saturday night at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat.
To reach the final Egypt stopped Guinea 1-0, while Morocco eliminated Mali 4-3 on penalty shoo-outs after a 2-2 draw at the semi final stage.
Another Kenyan Stephen Elezar Onyango Yiembe and Omar Abdulkadir Artan (Somalia) will be the first assistant referee and fourth official respectively.Togo’s Jonathan Ahonto Koffi will be the second assistant referee, while Jean Claude Birumushahu is the commissioner.
Eight teams qualified for the U23 AFCON which kicked off on June 24, 2023 in the Moroccan towns of Rabat and Tangier. No team from the CECAFA region qualified for the competition which also provided three slots for qualification for the Paris Olympic Games 2024.

South Sudan appoint Dupuis new head coach
The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has appointed Nicholas Dupuis as the new head coach of the national team.
Victor Lawrence Lual, the Secretary General of the South Sudan Football Association confirmed that the Frenchman has been appointed to start work immediately to prepare the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that start next month.
” We have appointed him on a three year contract and he arrived in South Sudan few days ago to start work, ” said Lual.
The new coach takes over from Italian Stefano Cusin whose two year contract ended mid this year before the Association advertised for the position.
Dupuis is remembered for having guided Madagascar to the quarter finals of the 2019 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt.
Dupuis will start his work to prepare the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers where South Sudan is placed in Group B alongside; Senegal, DR Congo, Mauritania, Togo and Sudan.

Andermariam co-opted on CECAFA Executive Committee
The President of the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF), Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam has been co-opted on the Executive Committee of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).
Wallace Karia, the CECAFA President co-opted Andermariam during an executive meeting that took place at the Element by Westin Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Monday.
All the other Executive members were in support of Andermariam being co-opted. ” I am happy to be co-opted into the CECAFA Executive. I will be a team player as we strive to make our Zone better in-terms of football development, ” said Andermariam.
He replaces former Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) President Olivier Mugambo who was co-opted in January during the General Assembly held in Zanzibar, but stepped down form his position in Rwanda.
