Flambeau Du Centre, Young Africans SC face tricky tests
Two teams Flambeau Du Centre and Young Africans SC will this evening carry the CECAFA flag as they take to the field in the first leg of the additional second preliminary round of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
It will be the reigning Tanzania Premier League champions Young Africans SC who will take to the pitch first against Club Africain (Tunisia) at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
After falling to Sudan’s Al Hilal in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, the Young Africans’ coach Nasreddine Nabi is aware his team will need a win by a comfortable margin before traveling for the return leg next week.
“Players know the importance of the match and they are all aware of that. Our target is to reach in the last 16, that is the only way to restore back respect,” says Nabi.
The coach made it clear that Club Africain is an experienced team that should be treated seriously.
Burundi’s giants Flambeau Du Centre who are hosting their match in Tanzania will later this evening face DC Motema Pembe from DR Congo at the Azam Complex.
Flambeau Du Centre who were ejected by Egyptian champions Zamalek in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will fancy their chances of going past this first hurdle.
Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars SC scored late to secure a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC in a TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Group C match played on Sunday night.
After losing their opening Group match, Singida Black Stars Fc went into the match determined to perform better at the New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
The CECAFA Kagame Cup 2025 winners dominated the South African side, but failed to take their chances.
Langelihle Phili gave the visitors the lead after 52 minutes capitalizing on a well taken Ashley Cupido cross.
In the 74th minute, substitute Marouf Tchakei came close to scoring for the hosts, but his chip was saved by the Stellenbosch goalkeeper.
In added time Singida Black Stars earned a penalty, which Tchakei made no mistake converting. Although Stellenbosch are top of Group C with 4 points, while Otoho d’oyo and CR Belouizdad have 3 points each, and Singida Black Stars are bottom of the table with 1 point.
Another team from the CECAFA Zone Nairobi United FC suffered a 1-0 defeat to DR Congos’s AS Maniema in a Group B match played at the Kasarani Stadium.
Jaency Mboma Kinda netted the lone goal after 67 minutes. Wydad AC and Maniema each have 6 points, while Azam FC and Nairobi United have no point.
Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC have lost 1-0 to visiting Wydad AC in a Group B match of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The first half ended goalless with the team sides creating some decent scoring opportunities at the New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Friday evening.
The Moroccan side took their chance to score through Nordin Amrabat after 57 minutes. He capitalized on a well taken cross by South African International Thembinkosi Lorch.
Wydad AC’s forward Aziz Ki, a former Young Africans SC player was injured and rushed to hospital.
It is the second straight defeat for Azam FC in the group stage, while Wydad AC go top with six points.
Action in the CAF Confederation Cup continues for CECAFA teams on Sunday with Kenya’s Nairobi Utd FC hosting Maniema Union in a Group B match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani,
Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars FC will also face Stellenbosch FC (South Africa) in a Group C match at the New Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
CECAFA teams Nairobi United, Azam FC and Singida Black Stars FC all got off to a wrong start in the group stage of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The reigning CECAFA Kagame Cup champions Singida Black Stars FC suffered a 2-0 away defeat to CR Belouizdad in Algeria on Saturday.
Abdennoriheb Belhocini and Abdelraouf Benguit scored for the home side at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers. Singida Black Stars FC tried to push forward, but failed to find goals.
On Sunday another Tanzanian side Azam FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Maniena Union at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa. Balako Christian Panzi and Christopher Pindi netted for the DR Congo side.
Later on Sunday night a 10-man Nairobi Utd team suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Wydad AC at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Ayoub Boucheta and Mohamed Bouchouari gave the Moroccan side a 2-0 first half lead. Mohamed Rayhi added the third goal, and Nairobi Utd’s Brian Mzee was sent off few minutes to the end of the match.
Action for the CECAFa teams returns this weekend with Azam Fc hosting Wydad AC on November 28th at the New Amaan Complex, while Singida Black Stars FC host AS Otoho, and Nairobi Untd host Maniema Union the next day.
CECAFA teams Azam FC and Nairobi United FC will face-off in the same group stage of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The two teams were placed in Group B during the draw conducted at the SuperSport Studio in Johannesburg on Monday afternoon.
The Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC under the guidance of experienced coach Florent Ibenge were placed in Group B alongside Wydad AC (Morocco), AS Maniema Union (DR Congo) and new comers Nairobi United FC.
Singida Black Stars FC, the CECAFA Kagame Cup reigning champions have also been placed in Group C that has CR Belouizdad (Algeria), Stellenbosch FC (South Africa) and AS Otoho (Congo Brazzaville)
The draw was conducted by CAFs head of Competitions Division, Khaled Nassar and assisted by former internationals Christopher Katongo (Zambia) and Alex Song (Cameroon).
The group stage matches will be played from November 23rd to February next year. Egypt’s Zamalek FC won the 2024/2025 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
