Sudan’s Mutasim Gafar Sirelkhatim elected CAF Executive Member
The President of the Sudan Football Association (SFA) Dr. Mutasim Gafar Sirelkhatim has has been elected as an Executive Committee member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Sirelkhatim was elected today to represent the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) during the 45th CAF Ordinary Assembly held at Sofitel Hotel in Abidjan, Coted’Ivoire.
Sirelkhatim collected 34 votes to beat the incumbent and President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Hassim Magogo who collected 20 votes.
The SFA President, also a former President of CECAFA takes over from Magogo who was first co-opted on the CAF exco in 2017, and later defeated former Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Leodegar Tenga during the 2019 Assembly held in Cairo, Egypt.
For the West African Football Union Zone A (WAFU A), Augustin Senghor, President of the Senegal Football Federation was un-opposed, while President of the Gabon Football Federation, Peirre Alain Mounguengui was also un-oppossed to represent the UNIFFAC Zone.
For the Union of North African Football (UNAF), the incumbent and President of the Libya Football Federation, Abulhakim Alshelmani beat Algeria’s Zefizer Djahid Abledwaha. The Togo Football Federation President, Colonel Gbezonde Kossi Akpovy was also un-oppossed for the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) after Lazare Bansee from Burkina Faso sent a letter with drawing.
For the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA), the Malawi Football Federation President, Walter Nyamilandu Manda came out top. He beat Mokhosi Philip Mohapi (Lesotho) and Mohamad Ally Samir Sobha ((Mauritius).
The CAF Assembly that was also attended by the FIFA President Gianni Infantino and chaired by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe. 54 Member Associations attended the Assembly.
Speaking to the Assembly FIFA President Infantino made it clear that football talent is certainly not a problem in Africa, but it needs to be identified and developed well.
Dr. Motsepe, the CAF President also called on Member Associations to work well well governments to develop infrastructure in their respective countries to propel the growth of Football.
“We still need help for government to come and help develop infrastructure. We cannot make progress in Africa if most of our teams cannot be watched by their nationals back at home and they play away from home because of lack of stadiums,” added Dr. Motsepe.
