Azam defeat Simba SC in Tanzania Premier League

Azam FC stopped Simba SC 1-0 in a 2022/2023 NBC Tanzania Premier League match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Thursday evening.

Prince Dube netted the lone goal after 35 minutes to hand Simba SC their first defeat after seven matches played.

The Zimbabwean international Dube made a good run on the left and curved the ball past Simba’s advancing goalkeeper Manula.

Simba SC tried to fight back to get goals, but failed to beat the Azam FC defencing line. Few days ago Azam FC parted ways with their French coach Denis Lavagne because of poor results including exiting the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

On Wednesday Young Africans SC went top of the log after stopped KMC FC 1-0. Feisal Salum scored the lone goal after 80 minutes. Geita Gold FC also defeated Ruvu Shooting 2-1 to move out of the bottom quarter of the log.

Juma Mahadhi and Burundian international Saidi Ntibazonkiza scored for Geita Gold Fc, while Ablkassim Suleiman netted the only goal for Ruvu Shooting.

Young Africans SC currently top the table with 17 points from 7 matches played, while Mtibwa Sugar FC who have played nine matches are in second place with 15 points. Simba SC are in third place with 14 points from 7 matches played.

Young Africans demolish rivals Simba in Tanzania Premier League derby

Reigning champions Young Africans SC returned to the summit in the Tanzania Premier League after a big 5-1 win against arch-rivals Simba SC in a match played o Sunday.

Zambian international Kennedy Musonda gave Young Africans the lead after only three minutes with a well taken header, but Kibu Denis made it 1-1 after 9 minutes at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

After recess, Young Africans SC returned with more hunger for goals as they dominated play in the midfield to override Simba SC. Maxi Nzengeli scored a brace, while Stephanie Aziz Ki also got his name on the score sheet, and Pacome Zouzoua netted a late penalty.

A happy Young Africans SC coach Miguel Gamondi said it was a good feeling winning in such away against their traditional rivals. “It is the happiest day of my football career,” said coach Gamondi.

Simba SC’s skipper Mohamed Hussein attributed the big loss for their failure to dominate the midfield. The win takes Young Africans SC top of the log with 21 points from eight matches, and 25 goals scored.

Later the Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan congratulated Young Africans SC for the win.

Young Africans top Tanzania Premier League First round

Reigning champions Tanzania Young Africans Sports Club have completed the 15th round of the 2022/2023 NBC Premier League top of the log.

With their head coach Nasreddine Nabi suspended and watching from the stands, Young Africans SC stopped hosts Namungo FC 2-0 in a match played at the Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa Lindi on Wednesday.

Yaick Bangala gave Young Africans SC the lead after 29 minutes, and Vincent Abubakary made it 2-0 in the early part of the second half.

Young Africans stay top of the log after the first round with 38 points from 15 matches played where they have won 12, drawn twice and lost once to 14th placed Ihefu SC.

Cedric Kaze, Young Africans SC’s assistant coach has made it clear that they have to keep working hard because there are still several matches to come in the season in the League, Azam Cup, Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar and the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup. “We need to keep working hard so that we get better and better,” added Kaze.

Azam FC who completed the first round with a 1-0 away win against Polisi Tanzania on December 5th, 2022 are second o the log with 35 points, while Simba SC are placed third with 34 points.

Singida Big Stars FC who lost their last first round match 2-1 to Coastal Union FC on Wednesday are placed fourth with 27 points, and Geita FC are fifth with 22 points. Police Tanzania are bottom of the log in 16th place.

Meanwhile, Young Africans’ leading striker Fiston Mayele has also been voted Player of the month of November.

The statement released by the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) stated that Mayele has been outstanding and played a pivotal role for his team.

“He scored seven goals plus a hat-trick and provided one assist in five matches which necessitated him to beat other two finalists Moses Phiri and Sadio Ntibazonkiza,” reads part of the statement.

Simba SC’s caretaker coach Juma Mgunda has also been voted Best coach of the month of November.

Former Newcastle Utd midfielder Bigirimana joins Young Africans

Burundian International and former Newcastle United midfielder Gael Bigirimana has joined Tanzania Premier League champions Young Africans SC.

The 28-year old Bigirimana was unveiled on Saturday during the Club Extra General Assembly held in Dar es Salaam.

The General Assembly also ushered in a new President, Eng.Hersi Ally Said who later introduced Bigirimana to the fans.

Bigirimana joins the Tanzanian Premier League champions as a free agent after seeing off his contract with Irish club, Glentoran. Besides Newcastle United, Bigirimana also played for Coventry City FC, United in England, Rangers, Motherwell FC and Hibernian FC in Scotland.

He becomes the third player Young Africans SC have signed as they strengthen their squad ahead of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. Mwamba Kambole and Bernard Morrison are the other players who have been signed.

Meanwhile, another top Tanzania Premier League side Simba SC who reached the quarter final stage of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup have also signed Habibu Kyombo and two foreign players  Moses Phiri (Zambia) and Nigerian Victor Akpan who played for Coastal Union last season.

Young Africans SC celebrate winning Tanzania NBC Premier League

Coach Nasreddine Nabi has said it is a good feeling leading Young Africans SC to winning the 2021/2022 Tanzania NBC Premier League title.

Young Africans SC were declared champions on Wednesday night after they stopped Coastal Union of Tanga 3-0 in a League match played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

With three matches left for them to complete the season Young Africans SC have 67 points from 27 matches played and not suffered any defeat.

“This is a very big achievement for us and everyone who belongs to Young Africans. We have worked hard and deserved to win the trophy,” said the Moroccan coach.

Striker Fiston Mayele who is the team’s leading scorer and netted a brace against Coastal Union says winning the League title means a lot to him as a player. “It feels good that I have scored several goals to help my team win the title. This title will motivate us to keep working hard so that we win more trophies,” added Mayele.

Simba SC who dominated the 2020/2021 season are currently second on the log with 54 points from 26 matches played.

Nabi’s team have the opportunity to win more silverware when they line-up against Coastal Union of Tanga in the final of the Azam Federation Cup final on July 2nd in Arusha.
