Three Day CECAFA-CAF Media Officers’ Workshop starts in Nairobi
The 3-Day CECAFA-CAF Media Officers’ Workshop has started at the Swiss Lenana Mount Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
Hussein Mohammed, President of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) who was the guest of honour opened the Workshop which has attracted 23 media officers from 11 Member Associations in the Zone.
“This Workshop, the first of it’s kind in the CECAFA Zone represents more than just a meeting, but a commitment to professionalism and continuous learning,” said the FKF President. He thanked CAF and the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association for putting up this Workshop especially as the Zone prepares to host the CHAN tournament this year and the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027,” he added.
Lux September, the Acting Director and Head of TV and Communications at CAF who addressed the Workshop online urged the participants to make use of what they will learn and practice it well when they return to their countries. “I thank the CECAFA leadership for putting this together to have this Workshop,” added September.
The Executive Director of CECAFA, Auka Gecheo thanked CAF under the leadership of Dr. Patrice Motsepe for always supporting the Zone in capacity building. He also thanked all the 11 Member Associations who managed to send participants to the Workshop.
Charlotte Pelagie Eyoum, the CAF Media Manager and CAF Consultant from Tunisia, Mondher Chaouachi are the instructors of the Workshop.
Abdella Mohamedali Abdela, a participant from the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF) thanked CECAFA and CAF for putting together the Workshop. “I am very happy that finally I have an opportunity like this to get better,” added Abdella. A participant from South Sudan Sarah Jacob says she is also very excited to be attending this 3-Day Workshop which will help her learn new communication aspects,” she added.
The Workshop which will climax on April 30th has attracted participants from Kenya, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Somalia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan, Burundi, Djibouti and Uganda.

Day 4: Tanzania edge Senegal to retain CAF African Schools Football Championship
Tanzania retained the Boys category of the CAF African Schools Football Championship on Saturday.
The Tanzanian side who had ejected hosts Ghana at the semi-final stage on Friday stopped Senegal in the final played at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday in Accra, Ghana.
After ending goalless in the allotted time, Tanzania went on to defeat Senegal 3-2 on penalties to successfully defend their crown. For the third position Ghana defeated Uganda 2-1
In the Girls category the hosts Ghana proved a tactically superior side scoring two second half goals to beat Uganda 2-0 in the final. South Africa also finished third in the Girls category after stopping Morocco 2-1.
The Awards ceremony was graced by the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, his Executive Members and the President of Ghana, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.
The 4-Day competition for U-15s supported by the Motsepe Foundation and TotalEnergies saw the champions in each category receive cheques of US$300,000, the runners-up US$200,000, and third placed US$150,000 for third place.
The competition attracted teams from Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, Algeria, Tanzania, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Morocco, Benin, Malawi and The Gambia.

CAF AFRICAN SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP
Day 3: Uganda, Tanzania qualify for CAF African Schools Football Championship final
Two teams from the CECAFA Zone have qualified for the finals in different categories at the on-going 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship in Accra, Ghana.
Uganda’s Girls team saw off Morocco 2-0 in the firsts semi-final. Going into the knock out stage after winning all their three matches in the Group Stage, Uganda scored in each half to see of the North Africans on Friday evening.
Giovanna Aketowanga Sunday scored early in the first half, before Lydia Namaseruka made it 2-0 in the second half.
In the second semi-final match hosts Ghana battled hard to eject reigning champions South Africa 3-2.
In the Boys category reigning champions Tanzania saw off hosts Ghana 1-0 in a semi final match played on Friday. Hamis Saddam netted the lone goal in the first half to silence the home fans.
Tanzania’s Boys team have been unbeaten since the tournament kicked off few days ago starting with a 1-1 draw against Senegal, dream goalless against Cote d’Ivoire, and beat DR Congo 1-0 in their last Group match on Thursday.
Tanzania will now face Senegal in the final on Saturday. The CECAFA Zonal reigning champions Uganda suffered a 5-6 defeat in penalties after the match had ended goalless in normal time.
The first prize is USD 300,000 for the continental champions in both the Boys and Girls categories, while the runners-up receive USD 200,000 and third-placed USD 150,000.

The CECAFA Zone will be represented by one match official Stephen Yiembe at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
Yiembe, from Kenya will be one of the assistant referees together with 116 other match officials who will to officiate at the inaugural competition slated for June 14 to July 13th in the United States of America.
FIFA has selected 35 referees, 58 assistant referees and 24 VAR officials from around the world to officiate at the competition which will bring together the top teams in the world including Real Madrid and Manchester City among others.
The other African referees selected include; Ghorbal Mustapha (Algeria), Ibrahim Mutaz (Libya) and Sy Issa (Senegal). The assistant referees include; Bangoura Nouha (Senegal), Camara Djibril (Senegal), Gourari Mokrane (Algeria) and Zerhouni Abbes Akram (Algeria), while the only VAR official is Ashour Mahmoud from Egypt.
Yiembe has also officiated several top matches including at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast, and the 2023 TotalEnergies U-23 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The competition to attract 32 teams will be played across 11 cities. Africa will be represented by Al Ahly (Egypt), Wydad AC (Morocco), Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia) and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

Day 2: CECAFA teams qualify for semi-final stage at CAF African Schools Football Championship
All representative teams from the CECAFA Zone have qualified for the semi-final stage at the on-going 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship in Ghana.
In the Girls category Uganda defeated The Gambia and DR Congo by a similar 3-0 score line in Group B matches played on Thursday.
Lillian Nabukeera netted a brace, while Grace Kawiino also got her name on the score sheet in Uganda’s win over The Gambia. Kawiino who also netted the lone goal in the 1-0 win against South Africa on Wednesday again made score she scored in the match against DR Congo. Brendah Nassaka and Lydia Namuseruka also scored.
In the Boys category Tanzania who started with a 1-1 draw against Senegal on Wednesday, returned to pick a goalless draw against Cote d’Ivoire in their first match on Thursday. Tanzania secured their semi-final berth after seeing off DR Congo 1-0 in their last Group A match.
Uganda who also kick started their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Ghana on Wednesday came all out to beat Algeria 4-0 and silence South Africa 4-1 in the matches played on Thursday. Nabir Kajjumba and Henry Muhoozi scored a goal each in the two matches, while Livingstone Kulata and Pius Kabenge were also on target against Algeria. Ashraf Kyakuwa and Yasin Nsubuga netted the other goals in the win against DR Congo.
Tanzania will now face Group B table leaders Ghana at the semi-final stage, while Group A leaders Senegal face Uganda. All the semi final matches will be played on Friday.
The competition which breaks together teams U-15s which will climax on April 26th.
