Tanzania’s youngster Kelvin John makes debut for Belgium’s KRC Gent
Tanzania’s youngster Pius Kelvin John finally made his debut for KRC Gent yesterday in the 2021/2022 Belgian Pro League.
The 19-year old striker came on as a second half substitute to help KRC Gent humble Eupen 5-0 in a match played at the Cegeka Arena.
“I am happy to make my debut for the club,” said Kelvin John. His team KRC Gent are currently placed 8th on the log, while Union Saint Gilloise are top.
The young Tanzanian player joined KRC Gent last June after spending time with Brooke House Football Academy in Leicester. The Belgian team had to wait till he made 18 year to sign a professional contract.
Nicknamed ‘the Tanzanian Mbappe’ Kelvin John played in the 2018 AFCON U-17 event, 2021 AFCON U-20 event and was top scorer in the 2019 CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup where he lead Tanzania to victory. He was also pre-selected for the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Last month he feature for the Tanzania national team during the two international matches against the Central African Republic and Sudan played in Dar es salaam.

Azam FC qualify for TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup group stage
Tanzania Premier League side, Azam FC have qualified for the group stage of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
After taking a 2-0 first leg win, Azam FC handled by experienced Florent Ibenge humbled KMKM SC 7-0 in the return leg of the second preliminary round match played at the Azam Complex Stadium on Friday evening.
Iddy Nado and DR Congo forward Japhte Kitambala each netted a brace to give the Ice Cream makers a comfortable 4-0 half time lead against the Zanzibar side.
After recess the KMKM SC side tried to push forward, but got punished on the break after 49 minutes when Pascal Msindo made it 5-0 for Azam FC.
Abdul Sopu also scored a brace to make sure Azam FC marched comfortably 9-0 on aggregate into the group stage. “I am very happy with the way my players have reacted today compared to the first leg. We need to continue working hard because we shall have many matches to come,” said Azam FC coach Ibenge.
In another match involving a team from the CECAFA Zone, Somalia’s Dekedaha FC lost the return leg 1-0 to Zamalek FC in a match played at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday. Seifeddine Jaziri converted a first half penalty for Zamalek FC.
The defeat means the Egyptian side advance to the group stage on a 7-0 goal aggregate.
Action will continues on Saturday when Singida Black Stars FC (Tanzania) host Burundi’s Flambeu du Centre in Dar es salaam. The first leg ended 1-1.
On Sunday Kenya’s Nairobi United who carry a 2-0 advantage will play away to Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.

Uganda Cubs draw with Venezuela in FIFA U-17 World Cup build-up tie
Uganda Cubs settled for a 1-1 draw against Venezuela in their first match of the U-17 Dubai Youth Challenge played on Thursday night.
The two teams using the tournament to prepare ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar completed the first half goalless at the Al Arabi Sports and Cultural Club.
Forward James Bogere put Uganda ahead after 52 minutes with a neat finish after picking up Isima Mulala Magala’s good pass.
But the South American team did not give and pushed forward before they leveled matters after 74 minutes.
Head coach Brian Ssenyondo said although his team missed several scoring opportunities, he is happy with the what they expressed themselves.
“Despite the missed chances I am very happy as a coach to see how the boys have been coordinating on the pitch through combination play, mobility, making runs and building from the back through the middle third to the final third,” he added.
Uganda Cubs will next face Panama on Sunday, and complete against Paraguay on October 28th.
Uganda will be the only nation from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Zone that will appear in the FIFA U-17 World Cup slated for November 3-27th in Qatar.
Uganda Cubs are placed in Group K together with Chile, Canada and France.

Simba SC win, Vipers suffer home defeat in CAF Champions League
Tanzania Premier League side Simba SC have defeated hosts Nsingizini Hotspurs FC 3-0 in the first leg second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
While Simba SC picked an advantage against the Eswatini Premier League team on Sunday evening, Uganda’s Vipers SC suffered a 2-1 home defeat to visiting Power Dynamos FC.
In the earlier match played at the Somhlolo National Stadium, Wilson Nangu gave Simba SC the lead at the stroke of half time.
After recess Denis Kibu netted a brace to ensure Simba SC carry the advantage ahead of the return leg to be played in Tanzania.
At the St. Marys Stadium in Kitende, hosts Vipers SC took an early second half lead with a Yunus Ssentamu goal.
But the visiting Zambian side quickly leveled matters through Kenyan forward Moses Shuma. Vipers SC defender Derrick Ndahiro later netted an own goal to give his team the advantage going into the return leg.

Nairobi United shock Tunisian side in CAF Confederation Cup
Nairobi United FC scored in each half to shock experienced Etoile Sportive du Sahel 2-0 in the first leg second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Ovella Ochieng gave the hosts the lead after 37 minutes in the closed match played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Ochieng made no mistake capitalizing on a well taken pass by Enoch Machaka.
Earlier Moussa Senghor had a good chance for Etoile Sportive du Sahel, but his effort missed the target.
In the second half, the visiting Tunisian Premier League side tried to push forward, but the Nairobi United defenders stood firm.
Duncan Omalla doubled Nairobi United’s lead after 57th minutes. Five minutes later Ochieng could have made it 3-0, but his shot hit the woodwork.
Nairobi United handled by former Kenyan international Nicholas Muyoti will now look to the second leg to be played at Stade Olympique de Sousse on October 26th.
In match involving two teams from the CECAFA Zone, hosts Flambeau du centre (Burundi) battled from a goal down to score and draw 1-1 against Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars FC.
Zambian International Clatous Chama had given Singida Black Stars FC in the second half, but the Burundian side were quick to level matters.
