Sudan to participate in CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship
The Sudan Football Association (SFA) has confirmed that they will field a team in 2023 CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship.
Kenya will host the Championship in the towns of Kisumu and Kakamega between November 25th and December 13th, 2023.
Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director told Cecafaonline that all the members except Burundi, Ethiopia and Eritrea will take part in the competition.
” We are happy that despite the challenges ongoing, Sudan have made it clear they will participate in the Championship. We expect to have the draw for the Championship with nine teams conducted at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda on Wednesday, ” added Gecheo.
Football activities have been suspended in Sudan since 15th, April, 2023 when the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, rival factions of the military government of Sudan began on 15 April 2023.
According to Yussuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director, the nine teams will be placed in two groups with Group A having five teams and Group B four teams. The best two teams will qualify for the semi finals.
The teams that will compete in the CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship include; Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia and Zanzibar.

Hosts Kenya to face Sudan, Rwanda in CECAFA U-18 Boys Championships
Hosts Kenya have been drawn in Group A of the CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship slated to take place November 25th to December 9th, 2023.
The draw was conducted by the CECAFA Competitions Director, Yussuf Mossi on Wednesday at the FUFA Technical Centre on the sidelines of the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship in Njeru, Uganda
Kenya have been placed alongside Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan and Djibouti for Group A to be based in Kisumu, while Group B has Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan and Uganda.
” We shall have the best two teams from each group qualify for the semi finals. The semi finals and final will all be played in Kisumu, ” added Mossi.
However, after the draw had been conducted, the Djibouti Football Federation (FDF) General Secretary, Youssouf Ahmed communicated that they have withdraw their team from the CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship.
Group A : Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan, Djibouti (withdrew November 15th)
Group B : Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Uganda
