Luvanga, Assresahagn nominated for CAF Award

Four players from the CECAFA region have been nominated in the Young Player of the Year (Women’s category) ahead of the CAF Awards 2022.

The Awards that will have categories for the women and men will be graced by CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe and his executive will take place on July 21st in Rabat, Morocco.

Tanzania’s Clara Luvanga who was the top scorer in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers and helped her team qualify together with Ethiopia’s Rediet Assresahagn have all made the provisional list. Uganda’s Fauzia Najjemba and Rukiya Bizimana (Burundi) are also on the list.

They will battle for the Award with other top players like Gift Monday (Nigeria) and Ghana’s duo of Evelyn Badu and Doris Boaduwaa among others.

Bizimana has also made the list for the Player of the Year (women) together with Uganda’s prolific striker Fazila Ikwaput.

The clubs that have been nominated for the Club of the Year Award include TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League 2021 winners Mamelodi Sundowns Womens FC, Hasaacas (Ghana), Wadi Degla (Egypt), AS Far (Morocco), AS Mande (Mali) and River Angels (Nigeria).

CAF honours Presidents Suluhu, Museveni, Ruto

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has honored the Presidents of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya during the CAF Awards 2025 held on Wednesday night in Rabat, Morocco.

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University hosted the prestigious Awards that brought together several stakeholders in the Football space.

Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (Uganda) and William Ruto (Kenya) were honoured with the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of football across Africa.

CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe commended the three East African leaders for demonstrating exceptional commitment toward the advancement of football development on the continent.

Each of the three Presidents was awarded a CAF plaque.

Dr. Motsepe applauded the three leaders for their ‘visionary’ support that has elevated East Africa’s Football profile globally.

The three East African countries recently hosted a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 tournament under the Pamoja Umbrella and preparations for the TotalEnrgies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 have taken shape as well.

Nabadda, Artan crowned CAF Best Referees for 2025

Two referees from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone Shamirah Nabadda and Omar Abdulkadr Artan have been crowned as the CAF Best Referees for 2025.

The two outstanding referees who have handled several high profile matches in 2025 were crowned during the CAF Awards taking place on Wednesday evening Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in Rabat, Morocco.

Somalia’s Omar Abdulkadr was voted the best Male referee, while Nabadda from Uganda was voted best female referee.

“It is a milestone for CECAFA refereeing era. We congratulate our top stars Abdulkadr and Nabadda,” said Ali Ahmed, the CECAFA head of refereeing.

Another match official from the CECAFA Zone Razak Liban (Djibouti) was voted the best assistant male referee, while Senegal’s Tabara Mbodji scooped the prize for best assistant female referee.

World FIFA U-20 champions Morocco were also crowned national team of the Year for men, while Nigeria are the women’s team of the year.

Morocco’s duo of Othmane Maamna and Doha El Madani were crowned men’s and women’s young players of the year respectively.

Former Young Africans SC forward Fiston Mayele who features for Pyramids FC in Egypt was crowned Men’s Interclub Player of the Year.

Goal of the Year went to Tanzania’s Clement Mzize for his stunning long-range strike for Young Africans against TP Mazembe in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. It was the only award decided by a fan vote.

Several other Awards were yet to be presented are the ceremony attended by top dignitaries including CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, FIFA officials and several Member Association Presidents in Africa.
