Kiyovu stop table leaders APR FC in Rwanda Premier League
Kiyovu Sports Club picked a vital 2-1 win against table leaders APR FC in a 2021/2022 Rwanda Premier League match played on Saturday.
The win at the Kigali Stadium restored Kiyovu SC’s hopes of winning the League title after several years.
Abedi Bigirimana netted for Kiyovu SC from the penalty spot after 18 minutes. Ugandan International Emmanuel Arnold Okwi had been brought down in the box.
The army side tried to push forward to get the goals, but the Green Baggies defended well. Okwi got his name on the score sheet after 29 minutes for Kiyovu to take a 2-0 lead at half time.
After making some changes coach Adil Erradi Muhammed’s team dominated play in the second half before they pulled back a goal through Fitina Ombolenga after 58 minutes.
APR remain top of the log with 60 points and lead Kiyovu SC because of a better goal difference. The two teams have each played 27 matches with three matches each to complete the season.
“I am happy that we picked maximum points against a strong team. We need to remain focused ahead of the remaining matches,” said Kiyovu Sc coach Francis Haringingo.
In the other matches played on Saturday Bugesera Fc lost 4-1 to Gorilla FC, while Marines Fc also picked a 4-1 victory against Etincelles FC. Etoile De L’Est stopped Espoir 3-1.
On Sunday Musanze FC held Rayon Sport to a 1-1 draw, while Rutsiro FC and AS Kigali also settled for a goalless draw. Police FC and Mukura FC drew 1-1, while Gicumbi FC and Gasogi United also failed to find goals as the match ended goalless.

APR FC crowned 2024/2025 Rwanda Premier League champions
APR Football Club have retained the Rwanda Premier League title.
The army side were crowned champions on Wednesday after defeating Musanze FC 3-1 in their last match played at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. Bosco Rubonneka netted a hat-trick for APR FC.
APR FC who also lifted the Peace Cup finished the season with 67 points from 30 matches played, while their arch-rivals Rayon Sport came second with 63 points.
APR FC will now represent Rwanda in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup.
Last year APR FC were runners-up in the CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup after losing to guest side Red Arrows FC from Zambia in the final.
Meanhwhile, the Somali Premier League was also decided last week with Mogadishu City Club FC emerging champions with 57 points, while Heegan FC finished second with 51 points.
The other Premier Leagues in the CECAFA region that have already been concluded include; Uganda, Burundi and Djibouti.

Army side APR FC retains Rwanda Premier League title
Army side APR FC are the champions of the 2023/2024 Rwanda Premier League.
Coach Thierry Froge’s team registered a 1-0 win against Kiyovu Sports FC on Saturday to win their fifth straight League title.
After a goalless first half, Gilbert Mugisha netted the lone goal after 51 minutes in a match played at the Kigalui Pele Stadium. Kiyouvu Sports FC tried to push forward to get some goals, but the APR FC goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila kept them at bay.
The win saw APR FC move to 63 points from 27 matches played, while Rayon Sports Fc are placed second with 51 points and Musanze FC 47 points in third place. The army side are yet to face Gasoyi United FC, Gorilla FC and Amagaju FC.
” We are very happy that after hard work we have won the League title with three more matches to be played, ” said the APR Coach Froge.
In the other matches played on Saturday Rayon Sports beat Bugesera FC 2-1, while Marines FC Gisenyi also picked a 2-1 victory against Police FC. Etoile de Lest defeated Amagaju FC 1-0.
APR FC who have now lifted 22 League title in Rwanda will represent the country in the 2024-2025 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

APR stop Bugesera to take lead in Rwanda Premier League
Army side APR FC have gone top of the 2021/2022 Rwanda Primus Premier League after a hard fought 1-0 win against Bugesera FC in a match played on Sunday.
After early pace setters SC Kiyovu lost 2-0 on Friday away to Gasogi United, APR FC needed to pick maximum points to go top.
Mugisha Bonheur netted a 90th minute goal to ensure the Army side picked maximum points to move top with 51 points. In another match played yesterday AS Kigali and Entincelles settled for a 2-2 draw.
With seven matches for each team left to complete the League it is a neck-to-neck battle between APR and Kiyovu who are separated by just one point.
Mukuru Victory Sport who lost 2-1 to Espoir on Saturday are placed third with 38 points, but with a better goal difference than Rayon Sport who also have the same number of points.
In the other matches played on Friday Police defeated Musanze 1-0, while Rutsire stopped Etoile de I’Est 1-0. Marines FC also picked a 2-1 win against Gicumbi FC. Former champions Ragon Sport also stopped Gorilla FC 1-0 on Saturday.
