Abera helps CBE to retain Ethiopia Women’s Premier League title
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) Women’s Football Club have been crowned champions of the 2022/2023 Ethiopia Women’s Premier League.
Coach Birhanu Gizaw’s team were crowned champions on Sunday after they defeated Mechal Women’s Club 2-0 in a match played at the Bahir Dar University Stadium.
In the match played against Mechal Women’s Club Aregash Kalsa and Medina Awol netted the goals to ensure CBE finished with 61 points. It was the sixth time CBE won the Women’s Premier League.
CBE skipper Loza Abera together with her teammate Aregash Kalsa finished as the top scorers with 23 goals, while Mechal’s Senaf Wakuma scored 16 goals.
“We are happy to retain the trophy and we shall now prepare well ahead of the Zonal qualifiers of the CAF Women’s Champions League,” says the CBE coach Birhanu Gizaw.
Electric Women’s Football Club came second with 52 points, while Hawassa finished third with 51 points. Thirteen teams participated in the 2022/2023 Ethiopia Women’s Premier League.
