CAF President Dr. Motsepe holds fruitful meeting with CECAFA members

The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe on Monday held a fruitful meeting with members of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA).
Dr. Motsepe met the members during a meeting held at the Marriot Mena House Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.
The meetings which also involved other Zones separately took place ahead of the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly.
Wallace Karia, President of CECAFA and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) told Cecafaonline.com that the meeting was very fruitful and a lot of developmental issues were discussed. “We thank Dr. Motsepe for holding this successful meeting which is geared at further developing Football,” added Karia.
Augustino Maduot Parek, President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) and Vice President of CECAFA also thanked Dr. Motsepe for the fruitful meeting that discussed several aspects to help develop Football.
CECAFA together with the other Zones COSAFA, UNIFFAC, WAFU A, WAFU B and UNAF commended the work of CAF under the leadership of Dr. Motsepe, including the 50% increase of Annual subventions from USD 500,000 to USD 750,000 that has been the bedrock of football development and hosting competitions at zonal level.
Dr. Motsepe thanked the six CAF Zonal Unions and their Member Associations for their contribution in driving the vision of making African Football globally competitive and self-sustaining.

Former Uganda Cranes captain Sekagya promoted to assistant coach role at New York Red Bulls FC

Former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Sekagya has been promoted to the role of assistant coach of Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls FC.
“Ibrahim Sekagya has been promoted to a full-time First Team Assistant Coach. Ibra will join the first team immediately and coach his final at New York Red Bulls II match will be on June 15 vs Chattanooga FC,” announced the Club on Tuesday.
Sekagya has been serving as the head coach for the reserve team (New York Red Bulls II) in the MLS Next Pro League since February 2023.
“We are pleased to add Ibra [Sekagya] to our first team coaching staff on a full-time basis,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider.
“He has led the development of many great players at NYRB II and have led the team to a great start to the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. He has earned this opportunity, and we are grateful to have him as a part of this organization.”
The former KCC FC defender in the Ugandan Premier League will have the opportunity to coach the New York Red Bulls FC team he featured for between 2013-2014 after moving from sister club New York Red Bulls Salzburg.
After the announcement made by the Major League Soccer side, Sekagya went to his X (former Twitter) handle and posted, “It’s with great pleasure!

Kenya stop Chad 2-1 in International friendly encounter

Harambee Stars have picked a 2-1 win against Chad in an international friendly match played at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
Emmanuel Osoro gave Kenya the lead after 18 minutes. He made no mistake finishing off a cross by Ben Omondi.
Chad who managed to hold Kenya to a goalless draw in the first match few days ago tried to push forward to find goals, but failed to penetrate the Harambee Stars defending line.
At the stroke of half time David Sakwa made it 2-0 for Kenya. But after the interval Chad intensified their search for goals and were rewarded after 60 minutes through Ali Mahamat Adam.
The win also marked head coach Benni McCarthy’s first victory from four matches since taking charge of the team in March this year.
Harambee Stars used the two friendly matches to prepare ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) 2025 to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Meanwhile, Burundi also registered a goalless draw against Mauritania in an international friendly match played in Morocco on Tuesday evening.

Uganda pick draw against Gambia, Rwanda suffer defeat in Blida

Uganda Cranes settled for a 1-1 draw in international match played against The Gambia on Monday night at the Stade de Marrakech Annexe in Morocco.
Smarting form a 3-0 defeat to Cameroon few days ago, Coach Paul Put’s team came all out in search of early goals.
After 25 minutes Roger Mato put Uganda Cranes ahead, but The Gambia replied with a penalty converted by Alasana Manneh after 45 minutes.
In the second half the two teams made some changes and pushed forward to try and get more goals. Uganda’s goalkeeper Ismail Watenga was replaced by Joel Mutakubwa after sustaining an injury.
In another international match played by a team from the CECAFA Zone Rwanda suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Algeria. The Amavubi suffered defeat by a similar margin to the same team few days ago.
On Tuesday Kenya’s Harambee Stars will face Chad, while Burundi take on Mauritania.

Ethiopian Insurance FC are 2024/2025 Premier League Champions

Ethiopian Insurance FC are the champions of the 2024/2025 Ethiopian Premier League.
Under coach Gebremedhin Haile, Ethiopian Insurance FC clinched the title on Monday after rivals and second placed Ethiopia Bunna FC battled to a 1-all draw against Mekelle 70 Ederta FC on Monday morning.
The draw means Ethiopia Bunna who have played 32 matches remain at 56 points, while Ethiopian Insurance with four more matches to play have 64 points and win the title for the first time.
Haile’s team will now represent Ethiopia in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAf Champions League.
Meanwhile, Sidama Coffee are also the winners of the Ethiopia Cup and will play in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
