CECAFA representatives graduate with FIFA Diplomas in Safeguarding
The FIFA safeguarding summit and graduation with over 111 MA FIFA Guardians across the different Member Associations took place at FIFA Headquarters in Zürich, Switzerland on Wednesday.
Over 111 FIFA Learners gathered as part of the safeguarding officers taking part in the FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma.
CECAFA’s Administrator Veronica Lusichi, Sarah Birungi (Uganda) Mohamed Ali Affasseh (Djibouti), Mike Kamure (Kenya), Jules Karangwa (Rwanda) and Avvellin Basegeta from Burundi attended the workshop and graduated as FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma.
The Diploma which started in 2020 consisted of five online courses and culminated into a summit workshop that provided an exceptional experience to learn and collaborate with peers, hear experiences from different survivors of abuse in sports and understand more about case management.
Lusichi, said that after this achievement they will make sure that they impart more knowledge about safeguarding in the Zone. “We need to keep sharing this knowledge we have acquired,” added Lusichi.
The Guardians safeguarding programme was introduced by FIFA to ensure that everyone in football is protected from harm and abuse. FIFA’s mission is to promote the game of football, protect its integrity and bring the game to all. As part of that effort, “FIFA’s Vision 2020-2023 Making Football Truly Global” sets out FIFA’s commitment to promote safe sport as part of broader efforts to protect human rights.
The FIFA Guardians programme provides a framework to help our 211 member associations (MA’s) to prevent any risk of harm to children in football and respond appropriately, as called for in article 3 of the FIFA Statutes and in line with article 23 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.
