Uganda to battle Comoros in Beach Soccer AFCON 2022 qualifiers

The two representatives from the CECAFA Zone Uganda and Tanzania have today been drawn in the qualifiers of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2022.

Uganda Sand Cranes have been drawn to face Comoros, while Tanzania will battle Malawi.

According to CAF, the first leg of the qualifiers will be played between July 22nd-24th and the return legs August 5-7th.  Uganda and Tanzania will play their first leg matches away from home.

The winners of the qualifier matches over two legs will qualify for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations slated for October 21-30th in Maputo, Mozambique.

Fourteen teams including Cameroon, Comoros, Cote D’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Seychelles, Tanzania, and Uganda are already fired up to battle for seven places in the 2022 Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations finals.

Uganda and Tanzania also played in the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2021 held in Senegal. The Uganda Sand Cranes finished 4th in the 2021.

Sand Cranes qualify for Beach Soccer AFCON

Uganda Sand Cranes have today qualified for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022.

The Uganda Sand Cranes secured a slot after a stopping Comoros 4-3 in the return leg of the first round played at the FUFA technical Centre in Njeru on Sunday.

Victory for coach Salim Jamal Muwonge’s team saw the Uganda Sand Cranes qualify on a 9-5 goal aggregate. Nicholas Mwere netted a hattrick, while Brian Nkuubi also got his name on the score sheet for Uganda Sand Cranes. Moeva Chakira scored a brace, while Ismael Ahmed scored the other for the visiting team.

“ It was a very tough match, but I am glad the players worked hard to make sure they picked a win,” said Uganda Sand Cranes coach Muwonge.

In another match involving a team from the CECAFA region Tanzania picked a 6-5 home win against Malawi, but the visitors qualify on an away goals rule. Malawi who won the first leg 3-2 where in high scoring form at the Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam to tie the match 8-8 on aggregate, but sailed through on more goals scored away from home.

Uganda have now join hosts Mozambique for the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations slated to take place October 21-30th. Six more teams will qualify for the tournament. Senegal are the title holders.
