CECAFA disciplinary Committee fines Express, KMKM SC for unsporting behaviour

The disciplinary Committee of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) on August 11th fined both Express FC and KMKM SC for unsporting behavior at the on-going CECAFA Kagame Cup in Tanzania.

CECAFA sanctioned the two teams following incidences that occurred during their semi final match on August 10th at the Azam Complex, Chamazi.

The Ugandan side Express that qualified for the finals and KMKM SC (Zanzibar) have been fined US$3,000 each for refusing to fulfill the match countdown rule of warming up.
The Committee explained that after inspection the two teams refused to leave the dressing rooms to warm up, delayed the kick off time, and also refused to take advice of the CECAFA Competitions Director, Yusuf Mossi.

The fines for the two teams were reached after assessing the situation guided by both the match commissioner and the referees reports and in reference to articles 9.4, 9.5 and 18 of the CECAFA regulations for club competitions.

The Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa was warned after he verbally disrupted the referees at the end of the first half, while the team’s kits manager Ayubu Balyejusa is suspended for the last match after he tried to attack the fourth official on his way to the dressing room.

Balyejusa has further been fined US$500 for the acts of indiscipline and confrontation towards referee and security officials.

The Committee chaired by Justus Mugisha also imposed four match suspensions for KMKM SC players Ishalka Said Mwinyi and Adam Ibrahim for any tournament in the CECAFA region and a fine of US$500 each. The duo reportedly rushed and attacked the referees after the final whistle.

KMKM SC official Suleiman Mohammed who rushed into the pitch to additionally fuel the ongoing chaos was also suspended for their next playoff match and fined US$500.

Any team that appeals will be expected to pay US$500 and fine within 24 hours after the decision. The members who attended the committee meeting held at Tiffany Diamond Hotel in Dar es Salaam include; Justus Mugisha (Chairman), Yusuf Mossi (Director of Competition), Auka Gecheo (Executive Director), Leslie Liyunda, Ali Ahmed (Referees Assessor), Amir Hassan (Match Commissioner), Albino Majok (Security Officer), Baraka Kizuguto (General Coordinator) and Sumaya Hood (Secretary).

Football development Workshops return to Sudan’s capital Khartoum

The Sudan Football Association (SFA) has organized two Football development workshops in the capital Khartoum.

The development comes after over two years of non activity because of the civil war that started in 2023.

Besides the referees and assessors workshop taking place, the Elite League is also on-going.

Ali Ahmed, the Head of Referees at the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) is conducting the two week workshop for referees and assessors at the Sudan Football Association (SFA) Technical Centre.

“We are very happy to have these workshops back in Sudan because Football contributes a big role in peace and integration here. CECAFA is also proud to support Sudan in Football development,” added Ahmed.

Osama Atta Elmanan Hassan, the SFA Vice President says they are glad to have Football back to Khartoum and also organize Football development workshops.

Vipers SC retain StarTimes Uganda Premier League title

Vipers Sports Club are champions of the 2025/2026 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The Kitende based side defeated Maroons FC 3-0 in a match played at the Wankulukuku Stadium on Tuesday to clinch their eighth Premier League title.

Veteran Yunus Sentamu gave Vipers SC the lead, before Usama Arafat and Karim Watambala added to more goals to ensure Vipers SC clinched the title with one more match to be played.

The win and a goalless draw by closest challengers KCCA FC against URA FC ensured Vipers bagged yet another trophy as they now have 64 points from 29 matches.

In the other matches played on Tuesday army side UPDF settled for a goalless draw against Calvary FC, while Police FC and Entebbe UPPC also drew 1-1, Bidco FC and Kitara FC drew 1-1, while Express FC and Lugazi FC also ended 0-0

Vipers SC handled by Belgian Van Jacky Minnaert will now represent Uganda in the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Sudan draw Ethiopia in 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

CECAFA teams Sudan and Ethiopia have been placed in Group J 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) PAMOJA qualifiers.

In the draw conducted at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, the two CECAFA teams were placed alongside Senegal and Mozambique.

The draw was conducted by former African football stars Max-Alain Gradel (Cote d’Ivoire), William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria), Essam El Hadary (Egypt) and Trésor Mputu (DR Congo).

Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania will co-host the tournament from June 19 June to July 17, 2027. Co-hosts will take part in qualifiers but have secured their places as co-hosts, so one team from their pool will join them.

The first matches of the group qualifiers will kick-off in September, 2026.

Group D also has two CECAFA teams Kenya and Eritrea together with South Africa and Guinea. Somalia who are making a return to the group stage of the qualifiers after several years are placed alongside Ivory Coast, Ghana and The Gambia.

The 48 teams that will play in the qualifiers have been placed into 12 groups, with the top two in each pool advancing to the continental finals.

Kenya line-up Kyrgyzstan, Palestine International friendly matches

The national team of Kenya will play two International friendly matches against Kyrgyzstan and Palestine next month.

Under the watchful eyes of head coach Benni McCarthy, the Harambee Stars will line up against Palestine on June 3rd, and three days later face hosts Kyrgyzstan.

The two matches will be played during the June FIFA international window.

The technical bench of the team has today named the squad including five new call-ups; Deon Woodman (Wealdstone FC), Sammy Hena-Kamau (Hull City), Micah Obiero (Wealdstone FC), Sydney Agina (Stoke City) and goalkeeper Caleb Kramer (ADO Den Haag).

Although they are automatic qualifiers as co-hosts of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, Kenya will also play in the qualifiers that kick-off in September 2026.
