Uganda Rhinos humble Djibouti in CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship

Defending champions Uganda have made a good start in the regional CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship 2023.

The hosts Uganda Rhinos defeated Djibouti 15-0 in a Group A match of the Championship taking place at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda.

Enock Bagenda four goals, while Richard Okello and Simon Wanyama also scored hat-tricks. Abubakali Walusimbi scored a brace, while Frank Ssekanjako, Owen Mukisa and Ronald Kigoye also had their names on the score sheet.

The Djibouti team captained by goalkeeper Mohamed Moussa tried to play a highly defensive apparoch, but failed to stop the Uganda Rhinos who showed hunger for goals.

Hamza Lutalo, the Uganda coach said although he was happy with the performance, they need to keep working hard. ” We need to keep working hard because this is a competition with more matches to come, ” he added.

In an earlier opening match of the Championship (Group A) Ethiopia and South Sudan settled for a 1-1 draw. Lazarus Peter George Laku gave the South Sudan team the lead after only 6 minutes, but the Ethiopian team leveled matters after 25 minute through a penalty converted by Kidus Dawit Tewolde.

The matches were also watched by the President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Hassim Magogo and the CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gecheo among others.

Action continues on Sunday with Zanzibar facing Rwanda, while Tanzania take on Somalia in Group B matches. The tournament is helping teams in the Zone to prepare ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-17 qualifiers next year.
