Sudan have booked a ticket to the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a 2-0 Group C win against South Africa on Sunday.

Two first half goals by Saif Eldin Terry and Mohamed Abdelrahman were enough to see the hosts pick vital three points at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.

The win sent Sudan handled by Hubert Velud to 12 points behind the Black Stars of Ghana who also defeated Sao Tome & Principe 3-1.

“We are very happy that finally we are back to the Africa Cup of Nations. This has been really hard work,” said striker Saif Eldin Terry after the match.

Sudan becomes the first nation in the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) region to qualify for the AFCON to take place in Cameroon.

Uganda Cranes could join Sudan on Monday if they pick a positive result away to Malawi in a Group B match.

Tanzania who defeated Libya 1-0 on Sunday in a Group H match played in Dar es Salaam, together with Kenya and South Sudan who face Togo and Burkina Faso respectively on Monday are out of contention.

CECAFA members Ethiopia who take on Ivory Coast and Rwanda’s Amavubi who battle Cameroon all on Tuesday have mathematical chances to qualify for the AFCON.

Sudan giants Al Hilal SC have again written history by winning the 2025/2026 Rwanda Premier League title – BK Pro League.

Last season they also emerged champions of the Mauritania Premier League.

The guest side Al Hilal SC were crowned champions after defeating Gasogi United 2-1 in a League match played on Wednesday.

They finished with 70 points, ahead of army side APR FC who bagged 59 points. Another guest side from Sudan Al Merriekh collected 58 points to finish third.

The two Sudan teams were forced to relocate and play as guest sides in the Rwanda Premier League because of the political conflict that affected Football activities back in Sudan.

Al Hilal SC becomes the first club in history to win top-flight league titles in Sudan, Mauritania and Rwanda.

However, according to the regulations by the Rwanda Premier League Board, Al-Hilal SC will not be allowed to represent Rwanda in African competitions.

Al Hilal SC will still play in the play-offs of the Elite League organized by the Sudan Football Association (SFA) to determine which teams will play in the 2026/2027 CAF competitions.

Handled by Romanian coach Laurențiu Reghecampf, Al-Hilal SC also reached the quarter final stage of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
