South Sudan and Uganda have advanced to the semi-final stage at the on-going CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship 2026.

Uganda defeated Zanzibar 3-0, while South Sudan saw off Djibouti 6-0 in Group B matches played at the KMC Stadium on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Shadia Nabirye gave the Uganda Teen Cranes a first half lead, while Immaculate Achen and Justine Ayerango added two more goals to ensure the team maintained their 100% winning run.

“I am happy to score again today and we continue to work hard ahead of more matches to come,” said Nabirye after the match also watched Riziki Pembe Juma, the Zanzibar Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports

In the second match Ajak Gau and Amou Seber netted a brace each as South Sudan run riot against Djibouti. Hellen Opiaha and Martin Yugu also got their names on the score sheet.

Sony Harret Alfred Odepu, South Sudan’s first assistant coach said the team worked hard to ensure they picked a second straight win.

On Wednesday Somalia will take on Sudan, while Tanzania face Kenya in Group A matches at the KMC Stadium.

Kenya and Tanzania are the first two teams to qualify for the semi-final stage at the on-going 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Kenyan side that brushed aside Sudan 16-0 in their opening match followed it up with a 6-0 win against a battled hardened Somalia side in a match played at the Azam Complex on Monday.

Bryl Okumu netted a brace, while Faith Boke, Brenda Achieng, Elizabeth Opiyo and Patience Mwende also had their names on the score sheet.

Mildred Omari Cheche, the Kenyan coach says she was happy with the display by her team against a highly defensive Somalia team. “I am happy we have now won two matches and have made it to the semi-final,” said the Kenyan coach.

The Somalia coach Mahad Mohamed Hagi made it clear that despite the second defeat in the tournament, he is happy that his team has got this opportunity to play competition Football at this level for the first time. “This is good exposure for our team and we shall keep improving with time,” added Hagi.

In the earlier match hosts Tanzania registered a 10-0 win against Sudan who are also playing in this tournament for the first time.

Bahati Kizanguzo netted six goals, while Harrier Juma picked a hat-trick. Sunday Masasila and John Milembe also scored the other goals for Tanzania who maintained a 100% winning run.

Kenya who lead Group A and Tanzania who are second all qualify for the semi-final stage before they complete their group matches.

On Tuesday Zanzibar will face Uganda, while Djibouti take on South Sudan in Group B matches at the KMC Stadium.

Uganda and South Sudan have kicked started their Group B campaign in the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship with wins.

The Uganda Crane Teens humbled Djibouti 13-0 in the second match played at the Azam Complex.

Justine Ayerango gave Uganda the lead in the first minute when she beat Djibouti’s goalkeeper Hiwot Ayenawe at close range.

The Ugandan team pilled a lot of pressure and were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes after a foul in the box. Lydia Namaseruka stepped forward and converted.

Later Shadia Nabirye netted a first half hat-trick, while Flavia Yagala and Immaculate Achen also had their names on the score sheet before the break.

After recess Achen netted her second goal of the evening, while Tracy Nabalanzi, Rashida Nakalema, Vicky Atyeronimungu and Brenda Nasaka also scored to ensure Uganda picked a comfortable 13-0 win.

Shryl Ulanda Botes, Uganda’s head coach says she was happy that her team started on a winning note in the tournament. “We are happy with the win and want to continue playing well in the whole tournament,” added Botes.

In an earlier match Zanzibar put up a good show, but lost 1-0 to South Sudan.

Amou Seber netted the only goal after 78 minutes after Zanzibar had defended well for long spells of the match.

“I am happy to score the only goal that has given us this win against a tough team,” Seber told Cecafaonline.com after the match.

Sudan return to action on Monday against Tanzania in a Group A match, while Somalia take on Kenya at the Azam Complex.

Kenya and Tanzania have picked wins on Day 1 of the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championships 2026.

The Kenyan team netted 16 goals against Sudan in the opening Group A match played on Saturday at the KMC Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

After 56 minutes the match was abandoned after five Sudan players had picked injuries and all substitutions had been effected.

Brendah Achieng was the star of the day scoring seven goals, while Lindey Weey Atieno and Elizabeth Opiyo netted a brace each. Flaviah Khatenje, Tabitha Wambui, Bevarline Otieno and Mwanakombo Bakari also had their names on the score board. Sudan’s Malaz Abdallah scored a own goal early in the second half.

“I am very happy that I managed to score seven goals in our opening match. We shall continue to work hard as the tournament continues,” says Achieng.

In the second Group A match hosts Tanzanian defeated Somalia 4-0 to move into second place on the log.

Yasinta Kaliwa gave Tanzania the lead after only 1 minute, before Bahati Kizanguzi made it 2-0 after 30 minutes.   

The debut making Somali team tried to play a highly defensive approach, but failed to contain the Tanzanian team. Fatuma Shagembe and Kizanguzi added two second half goals to give the home side a perfect start.

Halimo Isse, Somalia’s captain said although they lost the match the team is excited that they played in the competition for the very first time. “We are glad to play in the competition because it helps us get more exposure,” added Isse.

Action continues on Sunday with two Group B matches to take place at the Azam Complex, Chamazi. South Sudan will face Zanzibar in the opening match, while Uganda takes on Djibouti in the second tie.
