KMKM SC retain Zanzibar Premier League title

KMKM Sports Club are the champions of the 2022/2023 PBZ Zanzibar Premier League.

The KMKM side retained the title after finishing with 69 points ahead of second placed KVZ SC who collected 65 points.

In their last matches played few days ago KMKM SC stopped Chipukizi Utd 2-0, while Kundemba FC picked a 1-0 win against relegation bound Taifa Jang’ombe, and Kipanga FC defeated bottom placed Dulla Boys FC 2-0.

Former champions Mlandege SC finished in third place with 53 points. KMKM SC have now lifted the Zanzibar Premier League title a record seven times, while Mlandege SC have also lifted it the same number of times.

KMKM SC will represent Zanzibar in the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

In the 2022/2023 KMKM SC failed to go past the first round of TotalEnergies CAF Champions League when they were eliminated by Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli.

JKU SC who finished sixth in the Zanzibar League will play in the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup after they stopped New King FC 2-0 on Friday to lift the Zanzibar FA Cup.

CECAFA members selected on different FIFA Standing Committees

The World Football governing body, FIFA has appointed several members from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone on different Committees.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President, also a member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive, Wallace Karia has been selected a Vice Chairman of the FIFA Beach Soccer Committee.

The development was announced few days ago by the world Football governing body.

In the Development Committee headed by Egypt’s Hany Abo Rida, Eritrea’s Milashu Isaak has been selected, Hersi Said, also President of Young Africans SC (Tanzania) is selected on the Men’s Club Competitions Committee.

Djibouti’s Mouhadin Ali is selected on the Youth Boy’s Competitions Committee, while Amina Mohamed (Djibouti) and Neema Haji are selected on the Youth Girl’s Competitions Committee.

Newly elected President of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF), Francis Amin Michael has been selected on the Member Associations Committee, Edgar Watson (Uganda) and Mutasim Sirelkhatim (Sudan) on the Technical Development Committee, and Fahmo Ali (Somalia), Victoria Yongule Nasera (South Sudan) and Jacqueline Ndimurukundo (Burundi) are on the Women’s Football Development Committee.

Eritrea’s FA President Paulos Andemariam and Ali Abdi Mohamed, the Somalia FA President are selected on the Grassroots and Amateur Football Committee, and Kenya’s Hussein Mohammed on the Institutional Relations Committee.

CECAFA Acting President and President of the Burundi FA, Alexandre Muyenge and Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim (Kenya) and Osama Abobakir (Sudan) are on the Stadium and Security Committee.

Rwanda’s newly appointed President of the Football Federation, Fabrice Shema and Isayas Jira Bosho, President of the Ethiopia FA and CAF Executive Member are selected on the Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Committee.

Uganda FA President Moses Magogo and Anne-Lisa Alida Kankindi (Rwanda) are selected on the Football Technology, Innovation and Digital Transformation Committee, and Samuel Asmare (Ethiopia) on the Football Social Responsibility Committee.

Souleiman Hassan Waberi, President of the Djibouti FA and a FIFA Council member is a member of the Futsal Committee.

FIFA stated that the listed composition of the standing Committees remains subject to further appointments conditional upon the approval of the FIFA Council.

Ex-Ugandan International Sseninde appointed CECAFA Interim Executive Director

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) wishes to inform Members Associations and all stakeholders that, Ms. Jean Sseninde has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as Interim Executive Director of the Association.

Sseninde, a former Ugandan International who has been the CECAFA Women Football Development Manager will take over the position immediately.

“We welcome Sseninde to this position and promise to give her all the necessary support as we work towards developing Football in the region,” said the CECAFA Acting President, Mr. Alexandre Muyenge.

The CECAFA Zone has 12 members; Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Zanzibar

Be united to continue to unite African Football – Gianni Infantino

The President of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), Gianni Infantino has asked African football leaders to continue to be united inorder to have strong Football future.

Infantino said this on Monday during the General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held in Kinshasa, DR Congo.

“I’m asking all to be united – to continue to unite Africa, to continue to unite African Football, because like this you have a strong voice all over the world for a bright future,” said the World Football President.

He also highlighted that FIFA has invested more than US$1.2 billion in Africa in recent years, where they have funded projects aimed at improving infrastructure and nurturing young players among others.

Infantino called upon the 130 African delegates in the different FIFA Committees to make their voices heard because this will have a bigger impact in the long run.

On his part, CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe thanked all the 54 Members Associations of CAF for the extensive work they continue doing to improve Football in the continent.

He also thanked Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania for hosting a successful 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). “It was important for CHAN to go to East Africa because we have learnt from some of the things we can do better,” he added.

Dr. Motsepe also revealed that CAF will organize a big Conference in Morocco on December 20th, 2025 a day before the start of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

“On December 20, we will host a big event in Morocco. We’ll bring together investors, partners, and key stakeholders to share ideas. We need their support to help all nations and clubs continue to grow. They must support football in Africa for both boys and girls. It will be a big success,” he added.

Al Merriekh, APR FC exit TotalEnergies CAF Champions League

Two teams from the CECAFA Zone Al Merriekh and APR FC have failed to make it to the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Sudan’s Al Merriekh failed to go past DR Congo’s Saint –Eloi Lupopo losing the first leg 1-0, and drawing goalless in the return played at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya on Saturday.

Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC also failed to go past reigning champions Pyramids FC from Egypt.

After losing the first leg 2-0 in Kigali, APR FC suffered a 3-0 defeat in the return leg played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Sunday. Mostafa Ziko, Ahmed Atef and Mohamed Hamdy netted the goals for the Egyptian side.

Seven teams from the CECAFA Zone have now progressed to the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

The second preliminary round will see Burundi’s Aigle Noir face Al Ahly (Egypt), while Ethiopian Insurance (Ethiopia) will table reigning champions Pyramids FC (Egypt).

In a clash of CECAFA teams Kenya Police FC (Kenya) will take on Al Hilal SC (Sudan), Simba SC (Tanzania) will face Nsingizini Hotsurs (Zimbabwe), Young Africans SC (Tanzania) will face Silver Strikers FC (Malawi), while Uganda’s Vipers SC take on Power Dynamos from Zambia.
