The Federation of Djibouti Football (FDF) has dismissed head coach Julien Mette as the national team coach.

Mette has been with the Djibouti national team since June, 2019 when he was appointed on a 3-year contract.

But following the poor run in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers 2022 where Djibouti have lost all the four matches played conceding 18 goals and scoring two, the Djibouti Federation decided on October 11th to dismiss Mette.

“Following the catastrophic results recorded by our senior national team, FDF has decided to dismiss the national coach Julien Mette,” said a communication by the Federation General Secretary Youssouf Ahmad Mohamoud.

FDF said more details and way forward will be announced on October 18th at the National Technical Center in Djibouti.

Although Mette led Djibouti for the first time to qualify for the group stage of the FIFA World Cup, the team has lost all four matches in all Group A matches played so far. Djibouti lost 8-0 to Algeria, fell 4-0 to Burkina Faso and 2-4 to Niger. On Monday they suffered another 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso.
