Africa to support Infantino in 2023 FIFA elections – Dr. Motsepe
The President of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe has said all the 54 members in Africa will support Gianni Infantino for re-elation as President of FIFA.
Dr. Motsepe made the remarks during the 44th CAF Ordinary Assembly held at the Lake Nyasa Hall, Arusha International Convention Centre (AICC) in Tanzania on Wednesday.
“We discussed at the executive committee meeting that in recognition of the huge contributions, commitment and the track record that you’ve built in terms of improving African football, all 54 member nations have taken a resolution to vote for you (Gianni Infantino) for re-election,” said Dr. Motsepe.
The elective FIFA Congress will be held in the CECAFA region for the first time in Kigali, Rwanda in March, 2023. Although Infantino has already made it clear he is seeking re-election, no other candidate has indicated that he/she will compete against Infantino.
Augustino Maduot, President of the South Sudan Football Association told Cecafaonline that Infantino has done a lot for football in Africa and deserves to be re-elected. “South Sudan was among the first countries to indicate that we shall re-elect Infantino,” added Maduot.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and CECAFA President, Wallace Karia also made it clear that their vote will go to Infantino come the FIFA elections next year. “Infantino has brought about several positive changes and we believe if we re-elect him more good things will come for the development of football,” added Karia.
