Uganda draw against Cameroon in U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier
Uganda’s Teen Cranes have picked a 1-1 draw against Cameroon in the second round first leg of the U-17 Women’s World Cup 2024 qualifying campaign
The hosts took the lead through Agnes Nabukenya after 34 minutes in the match played at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.
Cameroon tried to push forward to find the goals, but the steady Ugandan goalkeeper Lilian Nakirya stood firm.
In the second half the Cameroon team made some changes and intensified their attacks at the Ugandan goal. Ernestine Heutchou leveled matters for Cameroon to make it 1-1.
” We created some good scoring chances, but did not take them. We still have few days to prepare the team well ahead of the tough return leg battle in Cameroon, ” said Uganda Teen Cranes coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes after the match.
In another match played in Lusaka, hosts Zambia defeated Tanzania 5-0 in the first leg. Blessing Zulu netted a barce, while Saliya Mwanza, Bwalya Namute Chileshe and Ruth Muwowo also got their names on the score sheet.
On Sunday the other CECAFA teams will be in action with Ethiopia hosting South Africa, while DR Congo is meant to face Kenya. Burundi will battle Botswana on February 6th, 2024.
The best three teams that win after the fourth round will qualify to represent Africa at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to take place in the Dominican Republic.
