Young Africans SC to face Mamelodi Sundowns in CAF Champions League quarter final

Tanzania Premier League reigning champions Young Africans SC have been drawn to face Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the quarter final stage of the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Young Africans SC who lost in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup Cup last year will host the South African giants side between March 29-30, 2024 in the first leg in Dar es Salaam.

The draw was conducted in Cairo on Tuesday supervised by the head of Competitions and Events at CAF, Samson Adamu with the help of former Ivorian and Egyptian legends Siaka Tiene and Ahmed Hassan respectively.

Another Tanzanian Premier League side Simba SC have been drawn against 11-time champions Al Ahly from Egypt. Simba SC will also host the first leg between March 29-30th at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The winner between Young Africans SC and Mamelodi Sundowns will face the winner between ES Tunis and ASEC Mimosas at the semi-final stage, while if Simba SC go through they will face the winner between TO Mazembe and Angola’s Atletico Petroleos.

It will also be the first time that two teams from the CECAFA Zone and from one country Young Africans SC and Simba SC play at the quarter final stage of Africa’s biggest club tournament.
