Young Africans SC draw giants Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad in Group stage

Tanzanian Premier League reigning champions Young Africans SC have been placed alongside tough sides in the group stage of the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

In the draw conducted in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday, Young Africans have been placed in Group D that also has the reigning champions Al Ahly (Egypt), CR Belouizdad (Algeria) and Ghana’s Medeama SC.

Young Africans SC, the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup finalists will start their campaign away to CR Belouizdad between November 24-25, before they host giants Al Ahly between December 1-2 in Dar es Salaam.

Another Tanzanian side Simba SC have been placed in Group B together with Wydad AC (Morocco) who ejected them at the quarter final stage last season. The other teams in the group include; ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire) and new comers Jwaneng Galaxy FC from Botswana. Simba SC will host ASEC Mimosas in their opening match between November 24-25th.

CECAFA’s third representatives Al Hilal from Sudan will play alongside ES Tunis and Esperance (Tunisia), together with Atletico Petroleos (Angola) in Group C.

The 2016 champions Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Pyramids FC (Egypt), TP Mazembe (DR Congo) and Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou are placed in Group A.

Group B : Wydad AC, Simba SC, ASEC Mimosas, Jwaneng Galaxy FC

Group C : ES Tunis, Atletico Petroleos, Al Hilal, Esperance

Group D : Al Ahly, CR Belouizdad, Young Africans SC, Medeama SC
