Uganda Cranes defeat Zambia in Pre-CHAN Mini tournament
Uganda Cranes stopped Zambia’s Chipolopolo 2-0 in their second game of the Pre-CHAN tournament played in Yaounde, Cameroon yesterday.
Coach Jonathan McKinstry started the Pre-CHAN tournament with a 1-1 draw against hosts Cameroon last week.
On Monday evening Vianne Ssekajugo and Steven Mukwala were on target for the Cranes at the Annex 1- OmnsiSports, Yaounde.
“I am happy with the way the team responded against Zambia. Slowly we are preparing well ahead of the CHAN tournament,” said McKinstry.
Uganda will face Niger in the last game of the Pre-CHAN Mini tournament on Thursday. The four teams are using the Pre-CHAN Mini tournament to prepare for the 2021 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which runs January 16th to February 7th.
The CHAN tournament which exclusively features players from the respective national championships was originally meant to take place in April last year, but the tournament was postponed to a later date due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania qualified to represent the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) at the CHAN tournament which brings together 16 teams. Morocco are the defending champions.
