Tanzania Boys team reach 2024 CAF Schools Football Championship final
Tanzania have qualified for the final of the Boys category in the on-going 2024 CAF Schools Football Championship in Zanzibar.
Unbeaten in the group stages, the Tanzania team saw off Benin 2-0 at the semi final stage on Thursday. Peter Arbogast and Hamis Hamis netted the goals.
The Tanzania team will now face Guinea in the final on Friday. The Guinea team defeated Senegal 4-3 in penalty shootouts after the second semi final clash had ended goalless in the allotted time.
Elieneza Nicolaus Nsanganzelu, the Tanzania Boys team coach says they know what to expect at the final, but they will prepare accordingly.
In the Girls category defending champions Tanzania suffered a 1-0 defeat to South Africa, while CECAFA’s second representatives Uganda also suffered bowed after losing 1-0 to Morocco.
Tanzania and Uganda will face-off to decide who comes third in the Girls final, while Morocco will battle South Africa in the final.
The winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competition will each receive USD 300 000 prize money, runners-up each receiving USD 200 000, while the bronze medalists will each take home USD 150 000, courtesy of CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation to be utilised for development projects within schools.
The championship this year has attracted teams from Tanzania, Morocco, Congo Republic, South Africa, Togo, The Gambia, Uganda, Senegal, Uganda, Benin, Guinea and Libya.

Tanzania to host qualifiers for CAF Pan African Schools tourney
The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CACAFA) has announced that the Zonal qualifiers for the CAF Pan African Schools Championship will take place in January 2023.
Initially the qualifiers were meant to take place in Uganda this month, but after consultations with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the qualifiers will now take place in Tanzania.
“Kindly be advised that the qualifiers for Pan African Schools Championship will now be hosted by Tanzania Football Federation from January 15th, 2023,” said the CECAFA Executive Director, Auka Gecheo in a communication to all members.
Gecheo said apart form Ethiopia, Somalia and Eritrea, they now have teams from the other member countries that will take part. Amus College (Girls category) and Royal Giant High School (Boys Category) will represent Uganda at the Zonal qualifiers.
According to CAF, the winners in each of the boys and girls categories will pocket US$100,000, while the runner-up takes US$70,000, and the third placed team US$50,000.
The continental tournament which serves as the final tournament of the CAF Pan African Schools Championship will take place April 7-9, 2023.
