Simba SC, Young Africans pick draws in CAF Champions League ties
Tanzanian sides Simba SC and Young Africans SC have today picked draws in their respective groups in the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
Simba SC who drew 1-1 in their opening Group B match against ASEC Mimosas picked a goalless draw away to Jwaneng Galaxy in a match played at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown, Botswana.
Simba SC who reached the quarter final stage last season are now second in the group with 2 points, while Jwaneng Galaxy top with 4 points.
At the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, hosts Young Africans SC needed a late goal by Pacome Zouzoua in the second minute of added time to hold African giants Al Ahly 1-1. South African international Percy Tau gave the Egyptian side the lead after 87 minutes, but Young Africans SC kept pushing forward.
It was the first point for Young Africans in Group D after they started the campaign with a 3-0 away defeat to Algeria’s CR Belouizdad.
The three teams from the CECAFA Zone will return to action in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League next week. Sudan’s Al Hilal will play away to Etoile du Sahel, while Young Africans SC will battle Medeama FC in Ghana with both matches on December 8th. 2023. Simba SC will play away to Wydad in Morocco on December 9th, 2023.
