Simba host ASEC, as Young Africans suffer defeat in CAF Champions League

Simba Sports Club will be in action this afternoon against ASEC Mimosas from Ivory Coast in a Group B encounter of the 2023/2024 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

The Tanzanian giants under the watchful eyes of Daniel Cadena will hoping to make good use of the home advantage at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium before traveling to Botswana next week.

Simba SC who were last month ejected by Al Ahly (Egypt) in the quarter final stage of the inuagural African Football League (AFL) on an away goals rule after the two teams tied 3-3 on aggregate will be all out to prove a point infront of their fans.

” We must go out and make a good start in the group stage, ” says Simba’s acting coach Daniel Cadena. Simba SC who reached the quarter final stage last season will look to the experience of Zambian international Clatous Chama who netted two goals when they ejected Power Dyanamos in the second round, John Bocco, Saidi Ntibazonkiza, Che Malone and Kibu Denis.

Another team from the CECAFA Zone Al Hilal (Sudan) will also be in action this evening in an away Group C match against Petro de Luanda in Angola.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Premier League reigning champions Young Africans SC kick started their Group D TotalEnergies CAF Champions League campaign on a bad note losing 3-0 away CR Belouizdad in Algeria last evening.

Abdelraouf Benguit gave the home side the lead after 10 minutes, before Abderrahhmane Meziane made it 2-0 in the second minute of added time to the end of the first half. Young Africans SC tried to fight back after recess, but failed to find their scoring touch. Lamin Jallow netted a late third goal for CR Belouizdad.
