South African Premier League side, Kaizer Cheifs FC have signed Tanzanian defensive midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko.

The gifted Bitegeko moves from Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC to Kaizer Chiefs FC on a two-year contract.

He becomes the first Tanzanian player to sign for Kaizer Chiefs after completing his move from Azam FC.

David Obua and Ivan Bukenya from Uganda, together with Anthony Akumu (Kenya) are some of the other players from East Africa that have before featured for Kaizer Chiefs FC.

Mtasingwa takes valuable experience yo Kaizer Chiefs FC, having spent six seasons in Scandinavia, playing in the Icelandic, Norwegian and Finnish leagues. He returned home in 2024 to help Azam FC finish third in the Tanzanian League last season.

The Tanzanian international has filled the role of vice-captain for his national team.

The World Football body, FIFA has announced that Kenya will host one of the rounds of the FIFA Women’s Series at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

Hussein Mohammed, President of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) confirmed the development on Tuesday.

The FIFA Women’s Series (International friendlies) to feature four teams will take place April 11-15. Kenya’s Harambee Starlets will face India in one of the matches, while Australia take on Malawi. The winners will face off in the last matches, while the losers also battle in a play-off.

“Hosting this tournament is a big step for Kenya’s football. It not only gives our national team valuable international exposure but also strengthens our capacity to organise and deliver competitions at the highest level. We thank the Government for their support and collaboration in making this possible,” added Mohammed.

The Cabinet Secretary for Sports in Kenya, Salim Mvurya welcomed the development and said such opportunities in positioning Kenya on the global stage.

“Being able to host a tournament of this nature reflects the progress Kenya is making in sports development. It shows that we are moving in the right direction and strengthening our place on the global map. We appreciate the Federation’s alignment with the broader vision of growing sports in the country,” he added.

Former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Sekagya has been promoted to the role of assistant coach of Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls FC.

“Ibrahim Sekagya has been promoted to a full-time First Team Assistant Coach. Ibra will join the first team immediately and coach his final at New York Red Bulls II match will be on June 15 vs Chattanooga FC,” announced the Club on Tuesday.

Sekagya has been serving as the head coach for the reserve team (New York Red Bulls II) in the MLS Next Pro League since February 2023.

“We are pleased to add Ibra [Sekagya] to our first team coaching staff on a full-time basis,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider.

“He has led the development of many great players at NYRB II and have led the team to a great start to the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. He has earned this opportunity, and we are grateful to have him as a part of this organization.”

The former KCC FC defender in the Ugandan Premier League will have the opportunity to coach the New York Red Bulls FC team he featured for between 2013-2014 after moving from sister club New York Red Bulls Salzburg.

The President of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) attended a historic peace match at the  Mogadishu Stadium on Tuesday.

In a sign of solidarity and support, President Augustino Parek Maduot watched the match featuring some African Legends and a selected team. Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre also garced the ceremony.

The African football legends who featured in the match watched by a big crowd included Samuel Eto’o (now Cameroon Football President and CAF Executive Member), Jay-Jay Okocha, and Emmanuel Adebayor. President of the Djibouti Football Federation and FIFA Council Member Suleiman Waberi also featured in the match.

“I am happy to be in Somalia because we must always support our members in the Zone. It is always good to be united as a Football family,” said the CECAFA President Maduot.

Somalia’s Prime Minister said the event marks a significant milestone in their efforts to restore the image and strength of Somali sports. “The presence of international stars and sports leaders shows that global confidence in Somalia is returning,” added Barre.

The match also served as an opportunity to assess Somalia’s readiness to host international fixtures in standard stadiums, amid renewed efforts to upgrade sports infrastructure across the country.
