Djibouti’s CEM Baulous arrive ahead of Zonal African Schools qualifiers

Two Schools from Djibouti are the first to arrive in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania ahead of the African Schools Football Championship Zonal qualifiers

CEM Baulous boys and girls team arrived this morning aboard Ethiopia Airlines flight and settled in the Tanzanian capital.

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) zonal qualifier will take centre stage from February 17-19th, 2023 at the Azam Stadium, Chamazi.

Amina Abdi Houssein, one of the players said she is happy to be in Tanzania for the tournament. “It is exciting to be here and compete against other schools,” added Houssein.

Some of the other teams are expected to arrive today, while all teams are expected to arrive by February 15th. The qualifier will attract 15 teams after one of South Sudan’s teams pulled out because of some challenges.

The African Schools Programme is a development project that focuses on schools’ football, organized through the African Schools Football Championship, which supports programs that increase the social impact of football and empower participating countries to administer football through training programs.

The 16 teams will come from Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Burundi and hosts Tanzania. Each of the eight Member Associations will enter a boys and girls team.

The winners in each category will receive a cash prize of US$100,000, while the second bags US$75,000, and the third placed team US$50,000.

Tanzania will be represented by Fountain Gate Dodoma Secondary and Benjamin William Mkapa High School.
