Sudan Premier League giants Al Hilal SC have earned a 1-1 draw against Young Africans SC in the first leg of the second round Preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

After a goaless first half, Fiston Mayele put the hosts ahead after 51 minutes at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

Ugandan international Khalid Aucho picked out Mayele with a neat pass, before the striker made no mistake curling the ball over the Al Hilal goalkeeper from outside the box.

But the celebrations were cut short after 67 minutes when Ssubstitute Abdulrahman Yusuph leveled matters after the Young African central defenders panicked and failed to clear the cross out of danger.

The two teams continued to create more scoring opportunities with Mayele hitting the pole on close range, while Yusuph was denied thrice by the alret Young Africans goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.

Cedric Kaze, the Young Africans SC assistant coach said they will have to prepare well ahead of the second leg. The experienced Florent Ibenge said although his team has the advantage having scored away from home, the job is not done yet.

On Sunday in the other 1st leg action of the 2nd preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Uganda Premier League giants  Vipers SC will host 2-time champions TP Mazembe (DR Congo), while Simba SC (Tanzania) play away to Angola’s CD Primeiro de Agosto, and Flambeau du Centre from Burundi will face Egypt’s Zamalek.
