AFCON 2023 : Tanzania draw against 10-man Zambia
Tanzania have settled for a 1-1 draw against Zambia to pick their first point at the ongoing TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Ivory Coast.
Simon Msuva gave Taifa Stars the lead after 11 minutes after a good cross by skipper Mbwana Samatta at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San-Pedro.
Taifa Stars capitalised on a blunder by the Zambian defenders before Samatta released Msuva who made no mistake shooting past the Chipolopolo goalkeeper.
Tanzania continued to dominate play and defending well enough to shut out the few attacks by the Zambian strikers. After 44 minutes Zambian captain Roderick Kabwe was sent-off after picking a second yellow card.
In the second half Taifa Stars interim coach Hemed Suleiman Morocco made some changes especially in the midfield as they tried to utilise their one man advantage.
After 62 minutes Taifa Stars goalkeeper Ashi Manula stopped a well taken shot by Daka. Zambia continued to defend in numbers as they tried to push forward on the break. After 88 minutes Daka who features for Leicester City in the English Premier League leveled matters with a well timed header off a corner kick.

TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023 postponed
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 will now be played in 2024.
Ivory Coast was slated to host the 34th edition of the AFCON between June to July next year.
But according to the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe the executive Committee that sat in Rabat, Morocco today decided the event is moved to January and February 2024.
“The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will now be played between January and February 2024,” said Mostepe during a press conference in Rabat, Morocco today.
The CAF President made it clear that it is not good for African football to play a tournament that can be washed out and it is not good for Africa and the continent at large and so we have to postpone it “I am happy and impressed with the infrastructure put in place by Ivory Coast in readiness for the tournament and I am sure they will host a very good tournament,” added Dr. Motsepe.
“It is after deliberations we came into the decision, we have partners and even though we make decisions, it is out of respect that we take the advice we are getting that we cannot take a risk [to host the tournament] and so that is why we have made the necessary announcement today,” he added.
Already each of the nations in the qualifiers have played two matches. But with the tournament postponed, the schedule for the remaining matches of the qualifiers will also be changed.
CECAFA teams Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi are also battling in the AFCON 2022 qualifiers.
