Kenya to face Sudan in CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship opening tie
The draw for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) U-17 Women’s Championship 2026 has been conducted.
Andrew Jackson Oryada, Head of Marketing and Communication conducted the draw at the FUFA TV headquarters in Kampala on Thursday.
Seven teams including debutants Somalia and Sudan will feature in the Championship slated for June 13-23rd in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The hosts Tanzania have been drawn in Group A alongside Kenya, Somalia and Sudan, while Group B has Uganda, South Sudan and Djibouti.
Kenya will face Sudan in the opening match on June 13th, while hosts Tanzania battle Somalia in the second match the same day at the KMC Stadium.
“We are delighted that Somalia and Sudan will for the first time take part in the Championship which also provides Member Associations in the Zone with the opportunity to build the Women’s Youth teams,” added Oryada.
The other tournaments lined-up on the 2026 CECAFA calendar include; CECAFA Kagame Cup, CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers, CAF U-20 CECAFA qualifiers, CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers and CAF U-17 CECAFA qualifiers.

CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship draw set
The draw for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) U-17 Women’s Championship 2026 will take place on May 21st, 2026 in Kampala, Uganda.
Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Manager confirmed that the draw will be conducted at 11.30am (East African time) at the FUFA TV headquarters in Mengo.
The tournament which will attract seven teams will take place June 13-23 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
“We shall hve seven teams being drawn and placed in two groups. We are appy that for the first time Somalia and Sudan will also send Women’s teams for this Championship,” added Mossi.
The draw will be conducted the CECAFA’s Head of Marketing and Communication, Andrew Jackson Oryada.
The Championship will also help teams from our Zone that would have qualified for the last stage of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers prepare better.

Eight nations enter teams for season opening CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship
The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed that eight teams will feature in the season opening 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship 2026.
Tanzania will host the Championship June 13-23 in the Dar es salaam.
Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Manager confirmed that eight nations have confirmed participation.
“We received confirmation from eight Member Associations including Somalia and Sudan who will field women teams for the first time at International level,” added Mossi.
The eight teams that have confirmed participation include; Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia and Sudan.
“The tournament will also help teams from our Zone that would have qualified for the last stage of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers prepare better,” explained Mossi.
CECAFA will also organize five other tournaments that include the CECAFA Kagame Cup, CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers, Africa Cup of Nations U-20 CECAFA qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations U-17 CECAFA qualifiers.
