Uganda’s Lady Doves FC hold Simba Queens to goalless draw
Uganda’s Lady Doves FC have remained top of Group A at the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier for the CECAFA Zone after holding Simba Queens to a goalless draw today.
It was goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro’s excellent performance that helped the 10-man Lady Doves team rescue a point in a match played at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Tanzania Women Premier League champions Simba Queens were dominant and created several scoring opportunities, but good goal keeping and steady defending helped Lady Doves pick a point.
Lady Doves had defender Sarah Nakuya sent-off for a second bookable offence later in the second half, but the Uganda Women’s Premier League champions held on for a goalless draw.
Clement Opa Tukumbuke Sanga was a constant threat to the Lady Doves defenders and goalkeeper and missed three good chance in the first 30 minutes.
Norah Alupo also missed for lady Doves after 32 minutes, while Fazila Ikwaput rattled the goalpost minutes into the second half.
After 73 minutes Nakuya was sent-off for a bad tackle having picked a yellow card early in the first half. The Simba Queens tried to push forward to get a goal, but the Lady Doves stood firm.
It was all celebrations at te end of the match for te Ugandan side as they remain top of the group before they face Burundi’s PVP FC in their last group match.
Fred Musiime, the Lady Doves coach said they was happy the team had battled to get a draw against a strong Tanzanian side. “We were reduced by a player, but the team remained firm,” said Musiime.
The Simba Queens coach Ali Omar Hababuu said they had played against a well organized team. He also praised the Lady Doves goalkeeper for the good display.
Action resumes tomorrow with two Group B matches.
