AFCON U-20 QUALIFIERS: Kenya defeat Ethiopia 3-0

Kenya’s U-20 national team, Rising Stars have kick started their campaign at the on-going CECAFA Zonal qualifiers for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) on a winning note.

The two teams played the first 30 minutes with more of a defensive approach before Benson Ochieng nodded in Kenya’s opening goal after 38 minutes at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha, Tanzania.

After recess Ronald Odede made it 2-0 for Kenya after 46 minutes. Ethiopia’s skipper Tsegab Kussa looked outstanding for his team, but the striking force lacked the depth, while Kenya defended well.

Enock Wanyama made sure he got his name on the score sheet with a 77th minute strike. The win takes Kenya top of Group C with three points.

In a second game played at the same Stadium, 10-man Uganda Hippos settled for a goalless draw against South Sudan in a Group B match.

Uganda had Musa Ramathan sent off for pushing a South Sudan player in the face after 36 minutes.

Action returns on Tuesday when Djibouti who lost the opening match 6-1 to Tanzania take on Somalia in a Group A match in the town of Karatu.
