Zambia’s Zanaco stop Young Africans in Dar es Salaam

Zambia Premier League side Zanaco FC defeated Young Africans 2-1 in an international friendly match played on Sunday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The match also marked the climax of ‘Wiki ya Mwananchi’ event which is celebrated by Young Africans Football Club.

Heritier Makambo gave Young Africans the lead after 30 minutes in-front of a 60,000 capacity fully packed stadium.

But the visitors returned charged after the interval to score through Achim Mumba and Kelvin Kapumba. “I am happy that this international friendly game at the right time and gave us a good test,” said Zanaco’s coach Kelvin Kaindu.

The match also helped the two sides prepare for the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League preliminary round matches to take place next month. Young Africans SC will start their campaign against Rivers FC, while Zanaco FC face Akonangui FC from Equatorial Guinea.

In another International friendly match, Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC defeated Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors 1-0 on Sunday.

Prince Dube netted the lone goal in a match played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia. On August 25th Azam FC had suffered a 4-0 defeat to another Zambian side Red Arrows FC.
