Youngster Okello guides KCCA FC to CECAFA Kagame Cup final
Uganda Premier League Champions KCCA FC on Friday qualified for the final of the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship.
Coach Mike Hillary Mutebi’s team defeated after guest side Green Eagles FC 4-3 in the first semi final played at the Kigali Stadium.
Youngster Allan Okello netted a brace to help the Ugandan side reach the final. Okello opened with a goal after only 2 minutes before Amity Shamende leveled matters on 37 minutes.
In the second half the Zambian side took the lead with a well taken Shamende goal, but the KCCA FC continued to attack in numbers. Okello netted his second goal of the day.
After a 2-all draw in 90 minutes the referee added another 30 minutes of extra time. Mike Mutyaba made it 3-2 for KCCA FC before Sadat Amuka scored the forth. Christopher Chola gave the Green Eagles FC team some hope with a third goal, but it was too late.
KCCA will now face defending champions Azam FC in the final on Sunday. Azam FC defeated AS Maniema 5-4 in penalty shoot-outs in the second semi final played on Friday night.
The final and play-offs will be played on Sunday with the winners taking US$30,000, while the runners-up pocket US$20,000 and the third placed US$10,000. Rwanda President Paul Kagame partly sponsors the regional tournament with the cash prize of US$60,000.
