Young Africans SC stop Africain, qualify for group stage

Tanzania’s Young Africans SC have qualified for the group stage of the 2022/2023 Total Energies CAF Confederation Cup.

After a goalless draw in the first leg of the additional second preliminary round, Young Africans SC defeated Club Africain SC in Tunisia 1-0 last night to book a place in the group stage.

It was Stephane Aziz Ki’s 79th minute goal that made the difference. The Tanzania Premier League reigning champions played a highly balanced game with good team work and defending. Young Africans SC qualified on a 1-0 goal aggregate.

Young Africans’ players and officials left the Hammedi Agrebi Olympic-Radès dancing all the way, as the local fans were in tears. “ I thank my players for the work well done,” said a happy Young Africans coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre lost 2-1 away to Motema Pembe of DR Congo and lost out 4-1 on aggregate.

Younga Africans now join other teams in the group stage like; Marumo Gallants (South Africa), FAR Rabat (Morocco), Rivers United (Nigeria), USM Alger (Algeria), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Pyramids (Egypt), St. Eloi Lupopo (DR Congo), ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast), Future FC (Egypt), Al Akhdar (Libya), AS Real Bamako (Mali), ASKO de Kara (Togo) and Diables Noirs (Congo Brazzaville)
