Young Africans SC eliminate Nigeria’s Rivers United to storm semi finals
Young Africans Sports Club have qualified for the semi final stage of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The Tanzanian Premier League reigning champions played to a goalless draw in the second leg of the quarter final against Nigeria’s Rivers United FC to qualify on a 2-0 goal aggregate.
After creating fewer chances in the first half, Young Africans Sc stepped up their search for goals in the second half with start striker Fiston Mayele keeping the Rivers United defending line on their toes at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
But the two sides failed to find the net, and Young Africans SC’s 2-0 first leg win in Nigeria was enough to ensure they write history to become the first team in Tanzania to reach the semi final stage of a CAF Club competition.
Young Africans SC will now face Marumo Gallants FC in the semi final stage. The South African Premier League side ejected Pyramids FC (Egypt) 2-1 on aggregate.
The second semi final will see ASEC Mimosas from Cote d’Ivoire face the winner between USM Alger and ASFAR (Morocco) who play the return leg of the quarter final later on Sunday night.
Nasreddine Nabi, the Young Africans SC head coach will now have little time to prepare his team ahead of the semi final first leg clash to be played in Dar es Salaam on May 10th, 2023.
