The head coach of Young Africans SC, Nasreddine Nabi has praised his team for the good performance in the first leg of the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup quarter final.

Young Africans SC shocked hosts Rivers United 2-0 in a match played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, striker Fiston Kalala Mayele netted a brace to ensure Young Africans SC take the advantage home for the return leg to be played on April 30th.

The Young Africans defending line stopped Rivers United attacking threat of skipper Nyima Nwagua, Malachi Ohawume and Chukwudi Ekeocha

“I am delighted to win because it is not easy to come to Nigeria and win. We played well and took our chances, but the game is far from over because we still have the second leg and we need to do even better to ensure we qualify,” said Nabi.

The Young Africans SC coach said that his team should not be too confident and should just continue working hard to make sure they get a positive result in the return leg.

Cedric Kaze, the assistant coach also said it was great to get an away win. “Now let’s focus on the second round with humility, hard work and confidence,” added Kaze.

In the other matches played on Sunday hosts Pyramids FC were held by Marumo Gallants (South Africa) 1-1 in Egypt, while US Monastirienne and Asec Mimosas settled for a goalless draw. USM Alger (Algeria) stopped ASFAR Club 2-0.
