Uganda’s Vipers SC will be in action on Friday in the first Group C match of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League away to Raja Casablanca.

After making it through the qualifiers and ejecting giants TP Mazembe, Coach Beto Bianchi Pellister’s team is determined to get a good result in Casablanca.

“We know playing away in Morocco will not be easy, but my players are well motivated and determined to get a good result,” added the new coach who joined the team few weeks ago.

Pellister said his players are okay. “It is a very important match for my team because it is important to make a god start. We are going to bring something positive,” added the coach after the first training schedule in Morocco on Thursday.

Team captain Milton Karisa made it clear that they are not under pressure. “We are going to give our best and make our club and nation proud,” added Karisa, who was also part of the Uganda Cranes team that played in the recent TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

Mali’s Boubou Traore will handle the match, while his fellow countrymen Modibo Samake and Amadou Belly Guisse Amadou will take charge as first and second referees respectively.

On Saturday all the three remaining teams from the CECAFA Zone will be in action away from home. Sudan reigning League champions Al Hilal will face former champions Mamelodi Sundowns in a Group B match in South Africa.

Another Sudanese side Al Merriekh will play Esperance de Tunis in Tunisia, while Tanzania’s Simba SC battle Horoya FC in Guniea.

It is the first time that four teams from the CECAFA Zone battle in the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. However, no team from the CECAFA Zone has lifted the Champions League trophy.
