Erick Kambale and Martin Kizza netted the two goals to help Express FC stop El Merreikh 2-1 in the first preliminary round of the 2021/2022 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Kambale gave the hosts the lead after 6 minutes in a match played at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende on Friday.

Express almost made it two goals, but Yaya Kakooza’s shot hit the crossbar after 31minutes.

But the visitors made sure they scored before halftime when Bakri Abd Elgadir leveled matters after 38 minutes.

In the second half Express FC returned determined to get more goals. After 60 minutes Martin Kizza capitalized on Godfrey Lwesibawa’s cross and slotted the ball past El Merreikh goalkeeper Salman Monged Elneel Abuzaid.

The Sudan team tried to push forward to get more goals, but failed to penetrate the Express FC defence.

Today other teams in the CECAFA region will be in action as the star studded AS Arta Solar 7 (Djibouti) hosts Tusker FC (Kenya), Young Africans SC (Tanzania) take on Rivers United (Nigeria), while Burundi’s Le Messager De Ngozi play away to US Gendarmerie Nationale.
