Uganda Cranes coach Sredojevic names provisional squad ahead of AFCON 2023 qualifiers

The head coach of the Uganda Cranes, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has named a 30-man provisional squad that will start preparations ahead of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier ties.

Sredojevic who recalled Turkish based Farouk Miya (Caykur Rizerspor) and Joseph Ochaya (Al Makawdoon Al Arab SC, Egypt) named the team on Thursday.

The team is expected to start preparations on March 15th ahead of the the Group F double header against Tanzania. Uganda who will play on a neutral ground in Egypt will host the Taifa Stars on March 24th, and the return leg takes place four days later at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dare es Salaam.

Uganda Cranes kick started their campaign with a 2-0 defeat away to Algeria, and settled for a 1-1 draw against Niger in a match played at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende in Uganda. Tanzania also picked a 1-1 draw away to Niger, and lost 2-0 to Algeria in a match played in Dar es Salaam.

The Desert Fennecs of Algeria lead the group with 6 points, while Niger have 2 points. Uganda Cranes and the Taifa Stars of Tanzania last featured in the 2019 AFCON that took place in Egypt.
