Uganda: Vipers Win Uganda Super Cup

League champions, Vipers SC on Sunday (16 August 2015) won the Ugandan football season curtain raiser ‘Super Cup’ by beating SC Villa 5-3 on penalties at Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, Kampala.

The encounter failed ended barren in regulation time, forcing the game into penalties where Vipers triumphed over their rivals

Vipers made the first attempt at goal on 19 minutes with left back Dan Birikwalira misguiding a free kick which pretty much stood out in the first half though Villa striker Umar Kasumba had his goal disallowed for a foul on Watenga Ismail.

Villa should have led by half time but will have striker Robert Achema to blame when he missed a spot kick in the 41st minute, after Vipers defender Lwaliwa Harid fouled Lwesibawa Godfrey in the vital area. Harid was subsequently sent off.

With a player down, Vipers returned in the second half with the introduction of Nkuubi Brian for Saddam Juma though the latter had little to show for it. Other substitutions made on the day saw William Wadri come on for Erisa Ssekisambu, Yusuf Mukisa for Dan Birikwalira, Joseph Mpande for Keziron Kizito, Ssemujju Joseph for Sentamu Siraje and Alitho James for Ismail Watenga.

Deus Bukenya of Vipers put on a splendid performance to earn himself man of the match accolade.

Vipers will begin the defence of the league title on Saturday now embark on defending the league title on Saturday when they host new comers The Saints FC at home in Buikwe.
