Hosts South Africa defeated Uganda Cranes 3-2 in an international friendly match played at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.

The Cranes took an early lead through Ibrahim Orit who nodded in after 15 minutes past South Africa’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

Uganda Cranes skipper Emmanuel Arnold Okwi should have made it 2-0 after few minutes, but blasted wide.

In the second half as the Uganda Cranes team looked to run out of steam, the hosts increased their intensity.
Substitute Evidence Makgopa netted a brace, while Bongokuhle Hlongwane was also on the score sheet for the home side.
Egyptian based Abdul Lumala later netted Uganda’s second goal with few minutes to the final whistle.

“We are very happy that the young players expressed themselves well. This has been a very good friendly match for the players and the technical team,” said Uganda’s interim coach Abudalla Mubiru.

The two teams used the international friendly match to prepare ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers which start in September.

Today Sudan will host Zambia in another international friendly match in Khartoum, while Tanzania face Malawi on June 13th.
