Uganda Cranes’ win against Kuwait excites Coach Paul Put

The Uganda Cranes defeated Kuwait 2-0 in an international match played in Cairo, Egypt on Friday evening.

Ronald Ssekiganda scored in the first half, while substitute Alex Kitaka made it 2-0 late in the second half. The two scorers were making their debuts for the Uganda Cranes.

Head coach Paul Put said he was happy with the way the team made up of local based players featuring in the Uganda Premier League had handled the match.

« This was a very good outing for the team. I am excited with the way we played and what the players showed on the pitch, » said Put who took over as Uganda Cranes coach in November last year.

The experienced coach said that there is still a lot of work to be done and many more international friendly matches will help the team to get better. The coach used the friendly match to test the team ahead of qualifiers for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championships (CHAN).

Since taking over as the Uganda Cranes coach Put’s team lost 2-1 against Guinea in Group G of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier and beat Somalia 1-0. The 2-0 win against Kuwait is the second win for Put while in-charge of the Uganda Cranes

In March this year the Uganda Cranes will face Botswana in June in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
