The two teams Uganda and Burundi that will play in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have been drawn in the same group of the regional CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship.

Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director and Amir Abdi Hassan Amir (Competitions Manager) conducted the draw via zoom on Wednesday morning.

The hosts Uganda have been placed in Group A alongside Burundi, Rwanda and Djibouti.

George Lutalo, the Uganda Crested Cranes head cooach said the group is tough. “This is a very tough group, but it gives us chance to prepare and have good tests ahead of the Women’s AFCON in Morocco,” added Lutalo.

Tanzania who finished second when the Championship was last held in 2019 have been placed in Group B alongside Zanzibar, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

The Championship which opens the CECAFA calendar for 2022 is meant to take place May 22 to June 5th at the FUFA Technical centre in Njeru. However, Auka Gecheo says there could be a slight change in dates that will be communicated by May 12th.
