Uganda appoint ex-Amavubi coach Johnathan McKinstry
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) has appointed Johnathan McKinstry as the new national team coach. The former coach of Rwanda’s Amavubi was unveiled on Monday during a press conference at the Federation headquarter in Mengo.
“I am excited about getting this job. This job is one of the top jobs in African football today,” added the 34-year old Northern Irish man.
He replaces Frenchman Sebastien Desabre who resigned after guiding the Uganda Cranes at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt two months ago.
“My ultimate goal is to take Uganda to the FIFA World Cup,” said the new coach who signed a three-year contract.
Edgar Watson, the Fufa Chief Executive officer said the Federation has selected a coach who fits in their vision of being the number one footballing nation in Africa on and off the pitch.
Before taking up the Ugandan appointment McKinstry resigned his job as coach of Bangladesh side Saif Sporting Club.
Abdallah Mubiru and Livingstone Mbabazi have been interim coaches of the team has also been confirmed as the assistant coaches, while former Uganda Cranes skipper Geoffrey Massa is the team manager.
