U-20 AFCON: Uganda, Tanzania opponents confirmed

The opponents for Cecafa representatives have been confirmed ahead of the U-20 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) to take place in Mauritania next month.

Uganda Hippos and Tanzania qualified to represent the region after impressing during the qualifiers held in Karatu, Tanzania last November.

In the draws conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) yesterday in Yaounde, Cameroon, the Hippos were placed in Group A that has hosts Mauritania, Mozambique and Cameroon. The Tanzania team has been placed in Group C that has Ghana, Gambia and Morocco.

The tournament for players aged 20 and below will take place February 14th to March 4th. Morley Byekwaso, Uganda’s coach said after the draws that they are capable of getting through the group and make it to the knock-out stage.
“We are preparing well enough so that we impress at the tournament,” said Byekwaso.

Group A: Mauritania, Cameroon, Uganda, Mozambique

Group B: Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Namibia, Central African Republic

Group C: Ghana, Tanzania, Gambia, Morocco
