English Premier League side Aston Villa have signed Tanzanian skipper Mbwana Samatta from KRC Genk. The striker has put pen to paper on a four-and-half year deal subject to a work permit and international clearance being granted.

Samatta, 27, has scored ten goals for Genk in all competitions this season including a goal at Anfield against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Dean Smith said: “I’m really pleased we have managed to bring Mbwana to the club.

“He has scored goals throughout his career and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Samatta said he is proud and excited to sign for Aston Villa.

“I’m so excited,” he said. “It’s a huge step for me in my career. “For all the people from Tanzania, this is a very big step for the country as well,” said Samatta during a TV interview with the new Club.

Samatta will become the second player from the CECAFA region after Kenya’s Victor Wanyama (Tottenham) to feature in a English Premier League side.
