Tanzania sink hosts Cameroon in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier

Tanzania have humbled hosts Cameroon 4-1 in the first leg of the final phase of the FIFA U-17 Women’s Wold Cup qualifier.

Diana William Mnally scored early for Tanzania, before Bernadette Ngaseh Mbele leveled for the hosts at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde. Tanzania took a 2-1 lead at half time.

After the interval Luvanga added two more goals to take her tally in the top scorers chart to 10 in the qualifiers.

“I am proud of my players. We have played well and took our chances,” said Tanzania’s head coach Bakari Shime.

Tanzania will now wait to hosts Cameroon in the return leg on June 5th at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

On Friday another CECAFA team Ethiopia suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in a match played at the Abebe Bekila Stadium. Opeyemi Ajakaye netted the lone goal in the first half.

The other third match in the qualifiers saw Ghana pick a 2-0 home win against Morocco.

Three of the winners over the two legs will represent Africa at this 2022  FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup slated for October 11-30th in India.
